Facebook page?
Of course everything sensible stopped in 2013 and nothing after that date.

I also looked up reviews and and course Match.com was the main advertiser.

Several reviews/complaints were folks trying to make new profile and get pushed Match or ourtime.com.

Are the remaining folks here stuck in a limbo or is this purgatory? ....ugh!

Can't sign on to match and I don't want to pay for the site when my expectations are lower than humanly possible. Never been on our time. I can see all the tubby, divorced old ladies with huge butts that I want right here in the neighborhood.

Obviously you like it here otherwise you'd delete and move on.

FB also has a group of former DH members who don't want to come back here but they can keep in touch on there.

When was the last time you tried to delete your profile? It is as impossible as changing your picture or adding friends.

Their last post is 2013. Doesn't look like anyone is controlling that site.

you are talking about something different. There is group of people who talk to each other on FB and they are current and former DH members. It is not controlled by DH but it is owned by one of DH's former members. I dropped out of it because there are some hateful people in it. And it is current.

Must be. I am talking about DH original FB page. Just shows you in 2013 everything decent for this site stopped.

The end of 2012 was when everything blew up and profiles got deleted and people quit. It was never the same after that. That was when DH lost its moderators and everything quit working on here. Maybe some of the customer service people were the ones who took care of their FB page. FB seems to have everything on it.

There is more business manipulation than anything else, involved with how dating sites work or appear to work.

Match bought out POF and OKC. Naturally they have lots of ads.

I've never been a facebook kind of person, so I don't know. But I NEVER hear anyone anywhere, talking about how they used Facebook to find a commercial business. Except in Facebook ads, of course. I hear people talking about ebay, and Amazon. The only time Facebook comes up, is when people who used to date each other are stalking their ex, or keeping up with aunt Martha's flower beds.

I signed up for Match once, way back when I first decided to try this stuff. I signed up for everything that would let me do so for free (at least partially). Of all the sites, only three upset me. Well, four. eHarmony were scammers, carefully collecting data through a long series of questions, only to declare AFTER I gave them useful demographics, that they didn't like "my kind of people." I was still only legally separated at the time, which was their complaint. But the VERY FIRST QUESTION was my marital status, which I answered honestly. The fact that they asked even ONE more question would have made them dishonest scu,. but they went on for several pages.

Zoosk was horrible for another reason: their automated notices, especially the ones that led directly NO WHERE on their site, were so frequent as to reach and pass the point of harassment. As in ten or more PER DAY. All useless.

OurTime is one of the many which claims to have a few free services, but actually has none, and AGAIN, once you sign up, you are badgered with abjectly useless "suggestions" that you date people who are hundreds of miles away.

Match was the worst. They actually made up fake profiles, which they stole from the other sites, and then sent fake messages (which you have to pay to read) from those fake profiles, to goad people testing the site, to sign up and pay. Thank goodness I never actually signed up and paid, because the net is packed with people struggling to cancel memberships there. Just getting them to delete my profile and stop the fake message notices (again, several a day), required MORE than the many hidden steps that they told us about. They wouldn't delete my profile, until I filled the entire thing with true stories of the lies they were telling everyone else, and listing my own annoyances with them.

DH has more fake profiles than real ones, in my local area. But then, since the people who make money from fake profiles now have automates software to generate new profiles by the hundreds as they are deleted, that's the way almost ALL the sites are.

I have a rare breed dog and there are several groups on FB of breeders and owners of these dogs and I use it to keep in touch with other owners.

There are also some nice grief support groups on there for people who could use support after they lose a pet or family member.

I never thought of it as a site to stalk people although I guess that happens and there are some scammers but you just don't friend them and they can't bother you. You can also block them and report them.

I also owned some unusual dogs in the past and I keep in touch with the owners all over the world who bought those dogs.

And I get to see some beautiful scenery from their countries so it does have it's good points.

The ads do drive you crazy though. If you "like" anything you can be sure you will get every ad available that will relate to whatever you "liked".

While I have met some wonderful people on FB, I have never used it as a place to meet someone.

Some of DH's former nice posters are friends on there and keep in touch. Some of them I follow (or comment on their posts). Others I ignore.

I would never think of FB as a dating site.

Oh yes, that's exactly what facebook is excellent for. I am a subscriber, just not one of the people who actively posts stuff and initiates things there. I signed up because at the time, the only way I could be sure of communicating with one of my teenage sins, was to post something on his FB page. Since then, it's been nice to get the updates from old friends who do post things that way. And I can see it's great for networking, for the people who want to use it that way.

My comment was just referring to the idea of businesses using facebook to promote themselves. I don't see that is being effective, despite the hundreds of ads I've heard from FB, trying to promote it to be THE be all end all for all online interactions. But the whole thing is just too complicated for me to utilize. Just trying to send a message to someone through it, is arcane. Every time I've tried, it took me almost an hour of wrestling and guessing, to figure out how to do that, since it doesn't work the same way that regular email does.

Anyway. I even read somewhere that Yahoo actually THINKS that it has a dating site function built into it. I haven't bothered to look, since no one else mentions it.

Teens seem to use it for dating and meeting people.

I hide every ad they put on my newsfeed.

Messages are easy. You just click on the person you want to message and a message block comes up. Type your message and hit enter and that's it. If they reply you get a notification at the top right of your screen.

Or if you type in their name and go to their profile, there is a message button and you click on it.

A friend of mine tried Match, boy was she disappointed.

She thought she could pay each month of the 6 month offer with no problems. They TOOK all 6 payments up front the minute she signed up . She complained but they said read the fine print.

Then with her 6 month offer it said if you did not get any dates or a love connection they would give u 6 more months for free. Bullcrap!

But since she didn't follow procedures she was denied her free 6 mnths.

She needed to be looking online so many times a day to quailfy.

I guess she wasn't searching day and night for a date so she was shit out of luck to get her extra 6 months free

I met my guy on Craigs under strictly platonic. First try was regular dating on Craigs but ran into married guys on the prowl there. I saw more local people on there than other, like DH. You put in max distance of 50 miles and they send you someone 1000 miles away! I am not on FB and will not, even though our group has a page to eliminate unwanteds. I have no interest in knowing about school chums I havent seen for 40 years. Nor if some husbands cousins kid can walk and chew gum at the same time. Or some cousin of my family I never knew existed. And my life is private. And DULL! I refuse to post I sowed flower seeds yesterday complete with pics of dirt! Too much like our old party line. Neighbor mother called her daughters and D in laws 3 times a day. And they called her that many. Line was always busy. Chat they got up, brushed teeth, etc. And then long pauses of sigh..yeaaaaahhhhhhhh. Drove dad nuts when he tried to make a call. No thanks!
I stick with DH as social media for me. Even though it would be nice to be able change main pic again!!!!

I do not get why have this useless site if no one can even get on it to get the constant advertisements where they want you to go look somewhere else.

Orz, it seem like it is impossible to change our main pic or to even add new pics. hell, I can see NO pics of anyone on their profile if I use the new version. I go to the old version and it tells me to email a new pic. I mean WTF?

I see that bull about email a pic.WTH? At least I can change pics in profile. If anyone can see those. I think DH has the idea that if they tick us off long enough, we will switch to paid sites. What they dont get is those of us who are on here for penpals and forums will just quit completely. And with so many social sites besides date ones, all DH will do is lose everyone period. Then they can post ads to the ghosts. DH should figure out that this site has become an FB substitute and should encourage it. That way they could keep people on here and OFFER them the choice to move to Match if they want more. And gain more people on
DH FOR forums and social. Idiots...

I've tried several sites over the years, even this one way way back.

The only one I've had any sort of luck with was OKCupid, even that has been severely lacking. Liars, bullshitters, fakes, holy poop on a stick I want to stab myself in the face with a spork.

Dating websites/services have made people into fast food, like cheeseburgers. People are not cheeseburgers, so why are they treated as such?
