Funny parents tell their kids that all the time , that and not to talk to strangers.
However one day is acceptable to do both those things once every year ..
Halloween kids do both take candy from strangers and talk to them ..
You got to think how serious your child is taking the whole situation when it's okay on that day why not any other time ...
Another thing you tell your kids not to lie , yet every year those who celebrate holidays lie to their kids.
Such as Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny , people want an honest ,smart child but how can that be expected when parents from the start brain wash them ...
So ... Any input on these topics ?

Kids get lots of conflicting orders. Dont lie. Tell granny you luv that sweater. HUH? Candy, no candy. Distrust people but ask someone for help. My dad refused to tell me about Santa and the rest. He said it was lying to a kid. And how would she feel when she found out. He paid for it and he wanted the credit..not some fantasy guy that gave manna from heaven.
I was taught where babies come from and told to not say anything to someone who said a stork brought them..let them believe what they wanted.
Maybe it is training for life. Oh, you will get a raise..next Tuesday. You are such a valued employee but we are letting you go next week. To honor til death do us part. Life sucks but bear it cause you'll get your reward when you die! Off yourself for 72 virgins.

I was told Santa was real I believed it till my sister told me it was our parents , I guess deep down I didn't really believe it cause I couldn't imagine it ..
Like being told I'd get sick from playing in the rain ,had o prove to myself and my mom it was fiction by playing in the rain , I couldn't picture how being wet could cause a cold in the warm summer , if that were true we'd got sick from swimming or showering ..
I've been straight up with my kids on the whole Santa Claus Easter Bunny thing ..

Kids need their fantasies just like adults. I feel people who tell their kids there is no Santa, just want to get accolades for the presents. I was not traumatized when I learned their was no Santa, Easter Bunny or Tooth Fairy. Those are all pleasant memories from childhood.

Off yourself for 72 virgins.
Not in support of the superstition to which you refer, Karen, but there's nothing in it that refers to 72 postmortem virgins for acts of martyrdom.

It's hard to be a parent, and most Americans certainly, arrive at parenthood while they are still so young and inexperienced that they are nearly entirely incompetent. So I really don't fault most parents THAT much, over the nonsense like Santa. It's funny, I don't recall ever believing in Santa myself, even though my parents never directly told me that Santa was a fantasy character. I think I deduced it from the fact that 100% of the TV shows I saw about Santa were unbelievable. On the other hand, I still managed to learn some huge falsehoods from Poppa TV, such as that it was hilarious and brilliant to cause someone to fall down and get hurt.
The main thing I wish that I had NOT been taught early on, was to trust and obey all authority, simply because it WAS authority. Between parents and teachers pounding that out, in a panic to try to corral all of us, and the TV shows of the fifties and sixties making the American Government appear to be the most brilliant and benevolent government ever to grace the planet, I took quite a while to realize how full of crap most authorities actually are. Caused me no end of pain and woe.
I was lucky that no one DID drive by, open a door and order me to get in. I would have, without hesitation, when I was five or so.
Of course it never stops. I'm in my sixties, and I'm still being told things by people in authority that are complete crap, and I still have to guess what's really going on.

Didn't you figure out that Santa Claus and the Easter bunny were BS after awhile? Lots of folks won't let their kids go trick or treating anymore because sick f**kers put needles in the candy or poison it. 'd surely think twice about it if I had kids that age. It's not the innocent pastime it was when I was a kid. The really neat thing was that it was the only night of the year that your Mom let you be out after dark.

"Didn't you figure out that" it is occasionally helpful to read words before drawing inferences from that which was or wasn't implied or stated? For future reference, try it out.
I think that you're among those that think that there are universe-creating Skywizards and postmortem brains for "good" people, without one bit of supportive evidence. What's the difference between that silliness and magical rodents (bunnies) that you thought brought you jelly beans and egg-shaped chocolate candy, none. Remember, don't get on Santa's bad side.
