I had some collectable cars stolen. The guy sold them as junk and was caught. He is suppose to pay me restitution but they want to pay what he got for the cars as junk. I have to prove what they worth. How do I go about this? Aren't they just gonna say one's man's junk is another's treasure? How can you make non car people understand the value of an antique or collectable car? Help

you would have to find someone or something that documents the value of those models of vehicles. Check around for someone that gets values, like at a car auction. Ever watched the barrett-jackson auto auctions on cable/speed channel? thats a good example.

As far as value, every city or county "Dept of Licensing", uses a value guide. The vehicles are rated 1-5, 1 being pefect, 5 being needs total restoration. Anytime a title changes hands, DOL figures the tax value, which can be more then you paid, if the value guide is much much more. I have yet to run across a vehicle not listed. Even the 28 essex, that is in pieces. Or you might try Ebay, and see what your similar vehicles are going for. Hope that helps.

Is the "Junk buyer", willing to sell them back, or did he re-sell?

from my experience, you don't get shit out of restitution. an exes boyfriend smashed all the windows out of my 1974 Nova a couple of years ago and he still ain't paid shit. and they won't do anything about it.

NADA has a pretty good page on old cars. The value they put on them for the most part is fair. Unless you have a rare jewel

nada is as well what a bank uses when doing auto loans..not the kelly blue book..id say use the nada guide and if you have anything to show as to condition to help you further with the value of the vehicle that would be your best option..
