Blazon Columbia's emblem
The bounteous golden corn!
Eons ago, of the great sun's glow
And the joy of the earth, 'twas born.
From Superior's shore to Chili,
From the ocean of dawn to the west,
With its banners of green and silken sheen
It sprang at the sun's behest;
And by dew and shower, from its natal hour,
With honey and wine 'twas fed,
Till on slope and plain the gods were fain
To share the feast outspread;
For the rarest boon to the land they loved
Was the Corn so rich and fair,
Nor star nor breeze o'er the farthest seas
Could find its like elsewhere.

In their holiest temples the Incas
Offered the heaven-sent Maize--
Grains wrought of gold, in a silver fold,
For the sun's enraptured gaze;
And its harvest came to the wandering tribes
As the gods' own gift and seal,
And Montezuma's festal bread
Was made of its sacred meal.
Narrow their cherished fields; but ours
Are broad as the continent's breast,
And, lavish as leaves, the rustling sheaves
Bring plenty and joy and rest;
For they strew the plains and crowd the wains
When the reapers meet at morn,
Till blithe cheers ring and west winds sing
A song for the garnered Corn.

The rose may bloom for England,
The lily for France unfold;
Ireland may honor the shamrock,
Scotland her thistle bold;
But the shield of the great Republic,
The glory of the West,
Shall bear a stalk of the tasseled Corn--
The sun's supreme bequest!
The arbutus and the goldenrod
The heart of the North may cheer,
And the mountain laurel for Maryland
Its royal clusters rear,
And jasmine and magnolia
The crest of the South adorn;
But the wide Republic's emblem
Is the bounteous, golden Corn!

Never trust a mirror, it shows only what is skin deep
You can't see your eyelids flutter as you drift off to sleep
It doesn't show you what the world sees when you're only being you
Or how your eyes light up when you're loving what you do
It doesn't capture when you're smiling when no one else can see
and your reflexion cannot tell you everything you mean to me
Never trust a mirror cause it only shows your skin
And if you think it dictates what you're worth
It's time you looked within.

Flower of Faith

Like the flowers in summer,
She fades away when the cold snows appear.
Soon to awaken from the caress of the sun.
Coming to life once again.

Sometimes, her heart awakens too early,
Fooled by a temporary, loving rays of warmth.
Trampled heavily by the viscous storm, fading away, weaker than before.
All that was stored is taken, until there is no more.

Then deep inside, comes the strength to survive.
This little leaf of hope pushes its way through the hard earth.
Small, weak, yet strong and determined.
A beautiful flower appears, proud, tall, glowing with love.

Shine for me,
You copper piece of...
Wait what?
Oh, bronze!
So, this one won't turn green?
Well that's great.
But...
Why they screwing his horse?
To win the war?
That doesn't make any sense.
Screw me?
Nah, SCREW YOU!
You and these COPPER statues...

Please answer me by Noemi Lee
Why do you say
you 'hate' happy
people?

Does that mean
you hate happiness?

Why is it that
happiness is considered
to be a four letter word?

Must you always
wear a scowl
on your face?

Can't it take
a bathroom break?

How can you expect
to find happiness
when you continue
to push it
farther and farther away?

poems about happiness Why do you hold
such disdain for
happiness?

What wrong has
happiness
done to you?

So, you mean
you've never had
happiness?

Then, how can you
hate something
you've never known?

Life is short,
I try to remember,
But my patience is constantly tested,
Generosity shown,
With child grown,
But my house has become un-nested.

To my sisters and friends that are like sisters

My Sister, My Friend by Leann Stiegman

To me you are an angel in disguise.
Full of intuition, intelligent, and wise.
Always giving and helping through
Good times and bad.
You are the best friend I've ever had.
If I had one wish it would surely be
To give you as much as you've given to me.
Though I've put our relationship through some cloudy days,
You've been my sunshine in so many ways.
Through trials and tests, right by me you stood,
And gave me your hand whenever you could.
Thank you so much my sister, my friend
My gratitude for you has no end.

What is up with these ungodly posts
From below,from the ghosts
They come to play with no one who cares
I bet they wear granny underwears

They seem to think that some attention
With words of pictures not to mention
What that mean and what I say
Seems to matter any way

Don't forget I only see
What really matters to me
I don't care about loves you lost
But you keep it up at any cost

Ghosts be gone,quit following me
I blocked you,so now your free
Move along like you been told
Your ancient history it's very old

A Self Centered Egotistical Mind

Wicked is the ego of self centered fools.
Who care about nothing but causing trouble.
Nobody can do right in the eyes of such people.
They have people beside them blinded in comfort.

The selfishness of the ego cries like a baby.
Especially when things don’t go the way it wants.
Then it try’s and psych you out by asking questions.
Did I do something wrong? Are you pushing me away?

The people who see this ego driven selfishness, laugh.
Every time it is expressed, we all laugh harder.
We laugh because this type of self centeredness grows.
It grows younger and more childish every single day.

This type of egotistical, possessiveness yearns for help.
But, you can’t tell someone this who already knows everything.
Why try beating a dead horse if it’s living?
It will still remain a dead horse breathing lucid air.

The self centered ego sucks people down and everything around it as well.
It cannot survive by simply being happy for others.
It needs to choke people, tell them they aren’t doing things right.
The ego has its own built up hatred to feed, on others faults.

What selfishness and pity can the human mind have?
Self centered minds who blame everything going wrong on others.
This is why egotistical self centered minds get pushed away.
This is why people leave and don’t want to come back, ever.

It’s always something, it’s always someone else’s fault.
This is the mind set of the ego driven self centered thought.
Never happy about anything unless it is perfect by the ego’s standards.
Funny, nobody seems to get along with this personality.
Grow up! Move on with life. Leave others alone. Stop pushing away.

A classic poem that to me conveys how a woman's beauty,awe &
magnificent essence can impress a man's heart so deeply & profoundly.
And in the regard of love, just as it should be between an outstanding
lady and a worthy man...

~~~ She Walks In Beauty~~~ by George Gordon, Lord Bryan
She walks in beauty like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which Heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more,one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o'er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure,how dear their dwelling place.
And on that cheek,and o'er that brow,
So soft,so calm,yet eloquent,
The smiles that win,the tints that glow,
But tell of days of goodness spent,
A mind of peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!
Oh by and by and as the ages
Transform,
And force the changes through times,
Ripped from the "norm";
The time in each day, which used to permit,
That delicate way,
When the era was to submit.
No time now seems to allow,
As in the time of curtsy and bow,
For the weaker sex, to bestow upon him,
That innate desire to enchant.
This goes out to my bestest friend......
What would I do without your smart mouth?
Drawing me in, and you kicking me out
You've got my head spinning, no kidding, I can't pin you down
What's going on in that beautiful mind
I'm on your magical mystery ride
And I'm so dizzy, don't know what hit me, but I'll be alright
My head's under water
But I'm breathing fine
You're crazy and I'm out of my mind
Cause all of me Loves all of you
Love your curves and all your edges
All your perfect imperfections
Give your all to me
I'll give my all to you
You're my end and my beginning
Even when I lose I'm winning
Cause I give you all of me
And you give me all of you
How many times do I have to tell you
Even when you're crying you're beautiful too
The world is beating you down, I'm around through every mood
You're my downfall, you're my muse
My worst distraction, my rhythm and blues
I can't stop singing, it's ringing, in my head for you
Give me all of you
Cards on the table, we're both showing hearts
Risking it all, though it's hard
I give you all of me
And you give me all of you
So many words of spoken truth........
you are my bestest friend.......
Abusive Relationships and Domestic Violence Supervisor
Wiki Gator
The man who bullies a woman is generally (I am generalising, there are always exceptions) someone who feels inadequate in himself. In order to feel better about himself, he projects his negativity onto his closest relationship, as she is the least likely to abandon him. I have just had a close shave with a bully. He began by drawing me in, making me feel special, saying how much he liked me, even loved me. Then quite quickly after that he began to put me down, tell me what I should and shouldn't say, how to behave. He would get very angry over little things - eg asking him a question, forgetting to bring something, not doing as he told me.
I still feel attracted to this man, inspite of his treatment of me. Probably because of his arrogant attitude.
So I would conclude, from my experience, that some men bully women due to their low self-worth, a need to always feel better than. Putting their woman down feels natural to them, that's what she is there for. There is a lack of self-awareness and an arrogance. Beware fellow women...... beware the wolf in sheep's clothing!
Freedom Is Not Free
- Kelly Strong
I watched the flag pass by one day.
It fluttered in the breeze.
A young Marine saluted it,
and then he stood at ease.
I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
He'd stand out in any crowd.
I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil?
How many mothers' tears?
How many pilots' planes shot down?
How many died at sea?
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
No, freedom isn't free.
I heard the sound of TAPS one night,
When everything was still
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill.
I wondered just how many times
That TAPS had meant "Amen,"
When a flag had draped a coffin
Of a brother or a friend.
I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives.
I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea
Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
No, freedom isn't free.
~~~~" IF"~~~~

.. by Rudyard Kipling (1910)

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on!”;

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings—nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run—
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

Start Where You Stand - by Berton Braley

Start where you stand and never mind the past,

The past won’t help you in beginning new,

If you have left it all behind at last

Why, that’s enough, you’re done with it, you’re through;

This is another chapter in the book,

This is another race that you have planned,

Don’t give the vanished days a backward look,

Start where you stand.

The world won’t care about your old defeats

If you can start anew and win success;

The future is your time, and time is fleet

And there is much of work and strain and stress;

Forget the buried woes and dead despairs,

Here is a brand-new trial right at hand,

The future is for him who does and dares,

Start where you stand.

Old failures will not halt, old triumphs aid,

To-day’s the thing, to-morrow soon will be;

Get in the fight and face it unafraid,

And leave the past to ancient history,

What has been, has been; yesterday is dead

And by it you are neither blessed nor banned;

Take courage, man, be brave and drive ahead,

Start where you stand.

I planted a money tree
it was very young
The branches were pretty
They were well hung
The wind came along
and blew them all down
the rain came along
and drowned the whole ground
but despite all of this
the tree has survived
somehow it flourished
and managed to survive
it never produced
the cash that I seek
but nature in it's beauty
I saw so unique......

~~The Choice~~

The intellect of man is forced to choose
perfection of the life,or of the work,
And if it takes the second must refuse
a heavenly mansion raging in the dark.
When all that story's finished,whats the news ?
In luck or out the toil has left it's mark:
That old perplexity an empty purse,
Or the day's vanity,the night's remorse.

My horse flew off the carousel
And rode through worlds I could not tell
I saw divergent countrysides
Then, landed back before I died

Life's carousel quickly turns
to spurn, churn, yearn, learn
Be of good heart, stay your course
no force, source, or vague remorse
Linger not to the weary ways
venture the maze, haze, praise the days.

Rose In Full Bloom

© Ishan Malik

Rambling down a cobbled pathway,
I stumbled upon a wild rose,
Deep garnet red,
Velveteen petals each curled to perfection,
Luminescent and innocently pretty,
A coy damsel oblivious of her beauty,
Fading away unadored and unsung,
Looking at me, she blushed
I stood love stung, adoring her,
Borrowed a steam bearing a bud
Planted her proudly in my garden,
Ever day, day after day,
I watched my rose break out of its chrysalis,
Groomed it with devout care,
Nurturing it with fertilizer,
Admiring it with every moment,
Watching it grown and come into full bloom,
Tall and elegant till it grew
And looked down on me!

You live off the land of tax payers
so you can say anything to the naysayers
you are a joke amongst us working folks
be proud and post away
we will pay for anything you say
America the free for you but not me
I work for a living
What more can I say.........

I want to send some birthday wishes,
to someone who I have grown to love as my brother.
You are always there for me and others,
with supportive words and a soft shoulder.
Accepting me for who I am, I trusted you from the start.
Showing me how to see myself through a brighter light.
Sharing your knowledge and love of life and nature.
Always giving me a reason to smile
I would be lost now, if you weren't in my life.

Happy Birthday, RF!

The Tyger
William Blake

Tyger Tyger. burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye.
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies.
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand, dare seize the fire?

And what shoulder, & what art,
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat.
What dread hand? & what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain,
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? what dread grasp.
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?

When the stars threw down their spears
And watered heaven with their tears:
Did he smile His work to see?
Did he who made the lamb make thee?

Tyger Tyger burning bright,
In the forests of the night:
What immortal hand or eye,
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

it is amazing in this world today
filled with love and hate
what separates the common one
from the one who is truly great

it is not the wealth in your bank account
or the stuff in your own back yard
of your loving, compassionate heart
but it is instead, what you share from inside

you do not choose your color of skin
you don't choose to be born rich or poor
you do not choose to be deaf or blind
wishing you had something more

you do not choose with whom you fall in love
you don't choose to be woman or man
you do not choose the family of yours
it is all part of a much larger plan

and although for some it's hard to relate
to the differences others endure
keep in mind there are certain choices
that make you shallow or pure

you do choose to love or hate
you do choose to follow or lead
you do choose to embrace or ignore
others, in their time of need

some things in life you cannot alter
but your attitude can change, it's true
and by doing so you can affect
the people who look up to you

the meaning of life is the greatest mystery of all
but the answer is easily found
it is unconditional love for all humankind
who walk on our common ground

In taking revenge a man is but equal to his enemy, but in passing it over he is his superior.

To have a good friend is one of the highest delights of life; to be a good friend is one of the noblest and most difficult undertakings.

My eyes went to bulging to better see
