So here's the thing.. I drive a truck for a living and will just happen to be on the area this weekend during the Kentucky derby. I'd love to be able to go with a fun group who's already going and maybe had someone cancel that i can buy their ticket from. Read my profile, message me with any questions.

Derby tickets are very expensive, even for the infield area. Good luck on your quest for Church Hill Downs area.
Many Kentucky natives settle for Derby Parties at home and watch the race on TV with post to post bird's eye view.

You probably won't be in the Lexington, KY area but if so go to the Keenland Raceway. It is located across from the Bluegrass Airport on Versailles Rd. They will have a big Derby bash and it will be fun to be in the crowd. Of course it isn't Church Hill Downs but close if you're looking for a fun Derby Day in KY.

Shawnee, he is 48 and I am 65. He is not interested in another momma. Have to admit, I am limited to just a 4 wheeler (2 of which are training wheels), while he travels in an 18 wheeler.
Hope he finds a Derby Party. Sankie's idea of Lexington is a good idea. He can see the real horse country and the Horse Park too! A bunch reading this can probably pull off a Meet and Greet for him, what do you saw Party People?

Hey Shawnee, you missed the point. With all these Lexington and nearby satellite peoples just itching for a Meet and Greet, someone needs to step up and throw this newcomers from TX a Derby Party. Somebody wake up skettles, she has time to get one going, it is not Saturday yet.

Love the idea of a derby party, however everything is set for the derby. Getting an infield ticket because that's where the party is. Found a place to park my house which proved harder than I thought. I do still need to find a sitter for my dog if anyone knows of a good place close.
Still wouldn't mind meeting up with some people already going though.

2stepr, google for dog kennel in Louisville, many vets provide that service, will keep your friend for the weekend. BUT you must have proof of shots due to other animals in the kennel. They will walk'em, feed'm and love'em while you are busy.

I have, and have several prospects, but will need to get closer so I have a time frame. Only problem is they seem to all be on the east side of town and I'm parking downtown. As you might imagine, I can't just load up and go just anywhere lol. Still trying to find something closer to where I'll be.

All this talk about your doggie friend and we don't know its make and model, what kind of dog and size travels with you?
2stepr, Louisville is a criss cross of Interstates. If you are in Downtown proper area (aka Broadway), then along Ohio River follow Interstate signs toward Lexington. If you are on a normal day and outside of rush hours (8, noon, 4 to 5 pm), you can hit East Side of Louisville (Zorn Ave, Hurstbourne Rd, Blankenbaker) in about 15 min.
If you are spending the night in a hotel near Downtown, then ask their staff to recommend a known kennel. Might work, people usually go overboard for Derby visitors.
torisdad is our Louisville member, speak up toris!
For recent event, Thunder Over Louisville, Metro activated National Guard and added extra police, had an armed officer on every bus running. You should be safe. Know that during Thunder there were many CCW in the crowd but more who openly wore their guns at the waist in sight.

For those who want to Derby after the official Derby, try this:
Mint Julep Gelées
To make these less strong, increase cold water to 2¼ cups and reduce bourbon to ¾ cup.
Ingredients
2 envelopes unflavored gelatin
2 cups cold water
1/2 cup firmly packed fresh mint leaves
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup bourbon
Garnishes: fresh mint sprigs, coarse sparkling sugar
See more: Stir Up a Classic Mint Julep
Preparation
Sprinkle gelatin over cold water in a medium saucepan. Let stand 5 minutes. Add mint leaves and sugar. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring often, 3 to 5 minutes or until steaming. Let stand 15 minutes. Remove and discard mint leaves. Stir in bourbon. Pour mixture into a lightly greased 9- x 5-inch loaf pan. Chill 4 hours to 1 week. Cut into squares. Garnish with fresh mint sprigs and coarse sparkling sugar.

Sounds gross. Regular mint julep? Ok. But only when Toris is in drag and I already had too many.
