Good thread Dave now I do not have to start one I can not wait for next Friday night when UK opens vs Albany Gonna be a different year for UK I can tell everyone right now they are not going undefeated in the regular season because there non conference is so tuff with games vs Puke, UCLA, Arizona St, Ohio St, Kansas, and Louisville... Add on to that the SEC is getting alot better some great coaches have come into the conference with Rick Barnes going to Tennessee and Ben Howland at Miss St.. Interested to see what Avery Johnson does at Alabama and it will be very weird when Kentucky takes on a Florida team that is no longer coached by Billy the Kid.. UK is still gonna be a force and from what I have seen so far by March they should be ready to make another deep run

Good Luck to UK this year. My sights will be on Villanova. I will get to meet the VU Wildcats team and coach in LA December 4th at a practice and reception (on their stop on the way to play a game in Hawaii).

The pre season ranking are listed below as of Nov 2. They are pretty much like the last season ended. Good luck to all your team and meet you on the court!!

Note: The coaches pole top ten follows the AP (better for UK and VU fans)

Great screen name. The Green Bay Packers were one of my favorite teams when I played HS football many moons ago. Good luck to Wisconsin' basketball team this year. They should have a good season and a shot at advancing in the NCAA Tournament.

Tommy,

Are you still upset thinking of all the money you could have won if you were a better gambler and bet on Temple Football to beat the spread all season?

My prediction of which of my teams will do well this season in basketball in order with AP ranking:

1. Villanova #11
2. Notre Dame #19
3. UCLA Votes, but no ranking (>#25) They could be a sleeper this year/ a team to watch
$. Temple Should make the NIT this year, and reached the semi-finals last year

The Temple/Tar Heels game is Friday the 13th, and it is an away game for the Tar Heels. Normally I would wish a Temple Basketball opponent bad luck against Temple, but North Carolina and Duke are teams I respect for basketball and like. My family knew Billy Cunningham when he was a player and coach in Philadelphia, because my mother found him a house as a realtor, and my sister baby sat for him when he played basketball and his wife attended the game. He is one of the most renowned Tar Heels in Basketball and has a wonderful family/wife/daughter.

A fellow Philly basketball fan? Do you ever go to any of the Big 5 Games? When I was in college, I used to go to the U of P Palestra to see Big Five double headers.

Dave, I do just fine betting on all sports thank you very much and yes, I could have added a few more dollars to my bankroll by betting on Temple in football this year but the thing is I like to bet on teams that have the spread covered by halftime so that I don't have to sit on pins and needles in the second half waiting for the team I bet on to cover the spread. Temple wouldn't have done that for me this year.

You should consider betting on pro golf since you know more about that sport than anyone else on DH Sports. There are all kinds of ways to bet every pro golf tournament. You can bet players who will finish in the top 15, top 10, or top 5 of any given tournament and win your bet even if one of your players you have selected doesn't win the tournament. You can even select five different players to win a given tournament and if one of the players you selected wins the tournament of course you win your bet. Of course the betting odds are determined by the players you select.

I do know a lot about golf and the players, but the problem is that most tournaments start out with 150 players, and if they are entered into the tournament, they have a chance to win or place. In horse racing, you have 10 horses, and it is often hard to find three of the ten to place. Betting to place on a professional Golf tournament is like betting on a horse to place with 150 horses racing at the start. You should see the movie on the golf channel or DVD, "The Squeeze." It is about gambling on golf with private matches, like Lee Trevino did before he went pro. I particularly like the ending. http://thesqueezemovie.com/

@ DAVE,

I have no interest in pro golf but I have a couple of buddies who do very well wagering on it. They pick and choose the tournaments they wager on and look at past history on how certain golfers have performed in those tournaments along with how hot those certain golfers are at the time of those tournaments. That's about all I know about their golf handicapping but I'm sure they go much deeper into it than that.

Since your thread, this thread, is about NCAA Basketball, what do you realistically expect from Villanova this year? I think they have the potential to be even better than they were last year with wins/loses after looking at their schedule.

Good luck to all your favorite College Basketball Teams this season. Please tell us the prospect of your favorite team for this season. I am and alumni of Villanova and have followed the team since the 1970's.

Villanova is returning from a Big East win last season. Last year the Big East sent six teams to the NCAA National Championship Tournament. Three of their top players are back this year, Ryan Arcidiacono, Daniel Ochefu and Josh Hart. Most analyst pick Villanova to repeat its Big East Conference win this year. Coach Jay Wright is an excellent coach that has lead the team to an impressive win loss record for the past dozen years. Villanova ended the season last year with a first seed entry to the NCAA Tournament, but was knocked out in the second round. I think with more NCAA Tournament experience under his belt, Jay Wright and his seasoned team have the potential to break through to win the NCAA Tournament this year.

Carolina is scary good even without their All American Paige for three more weeks. They crushed Temple tonight by 24 points as a 10 point favorite. Both Kentucky and Duke won tonight too but neither one of them covered.

I guess UCLA knows who they are since they took out the Bruins 84-81 in overtime last night at Pauley Pavilion as a 15 point road dog.

When I was living in Philly and had a girlfriend living near the North Jersey Beach (Fair Haven/Red Bank, NJ) I would drive through the Monmouth Circle. They surprised everyone this week, particularly the Riverboat Gamblers. LOL. They do play a few notable teams that include USC & ND this month, and later play Georgetown, & Army. Thier schedule calls their home location as West Long Branch. It was a long time ago, but when I was in college I went to the beach in Long Branch, and as I was returning I saw a guy with his arm in my window. We chased him and he got nothing, but were lucky we did not catch him. At that time Long Branch was a tough town with a lot of druggies. Hopefully it has improved over the years.

The game was cancelled because of condensation on the courts.... I was only able to see a little bit of the game but the announces were already talking about players slipping on the courts.... The same thing happened a couple of years ago here in Jacksonville when Florida and Georgetown played on a naval hanger but due to the same issue the game was called at halftime... No team gets the W in this game and stats do not officially count either....

UK starts slow but ends up blowing out the computer nerds from jersey... I guess Duke had to do the same as UK because they also played a game last night so both teams will have played 3 games in 5 days when they meet Tuesday night in Chicago....

Memphis dumbly changed their midnight madness to be an event around noon that only 500 people went to. lol. Probably were embarrassed that Pastner would get booed, since he needs to have been gone long ago. We have a great recruit, but half our team left, including our main player, due to the bad coaching here. We did win last night......... against a team around 300 in rankings.

Memphis plays Temple, who got beat by 3 touchdowns by UCF last week. This should be an interesting game, both teams comming off a loss. The current spread I saw was Temple + 2.5.

Yeah, in football. I figure it will be a good game, but it's a shame we both lost 2 games recently, or it would have been that much better if we both remained undefeated going into it. I kind of have a feeling we are going to win by a lot after losing these past 2 games, but on paper it would seem it should be close and I wouldn't be surprised if temple wins, either, but still am picking Memphis.

The game of the year so far in the early stages of college basketball season takes place on Tuesday night on a neutral court with Duke vs. Kentucky with two coaches going against each other who are the best in the business at recruiting one and done players even though Coach Cal can't even carry Coach K's suitcase when it comes to the all time greats in college coaching basketball history.

Kentucky is - 2 1/2 in this early season matchup among the college powerhouses. Who will win and who will cover?

Current Las Vegas Odds To Win The NCAA National Championship:

Maryland 8 to 1
Kentucky 8 to 1
Duke 17 to 2
Carolina 9 to 1
Virginia 10 to 1
Kansas 14 to 1
Michigan State 18 to 1
California 25 to 1
Gonzaga 25 to 1
Villanova 30 to 1

The ACC is stacked as usual!

Maryland at the top of the list? Seriously? Let's see if they get past Georgetown.....
The only 2 that seem right to me on this list is Duke and Gonzaga.....

We'll know today how Memphis' season will go because today is just about the only tough team we play all year. lol. Number 8 Oklahoma. And it's at HOME, to boot. Then the only other ranked team we play is UConn and who knows if they will be ranked at that time. I need to stop being lazy and hurry up and head to Lexington to convince Cal to come back here.

Maryland will be very good this season and Georgetown has already lost to the sisters of the weak called Radford.

Kentucky only won because I wanted them to. If I were to stop liking Calipari, like most Memphis fans, I could make them lose.

Double I did not see you on the court last night I think it had to do more with Ulis and co last night than your feelings for Cal

Nice comebacks by MSU and Maryland last night..... Avery Johnson had a horrible debut as Dayton blast Bama 80-48

Coach Cal will never enter the city limits of Memphis again unless the schedule requires him to coach a game there. It's called "Movin on Up" like the theme song to "The Jeffersons".

Big East fan here! I miss the days of yesterday. was the best conference for hoops
in the nation. Pitt should never have left to join the ACC.
Time to dump loser DePaul and bring in maybe Cincinnati Bearcats!

Nah. He hasn't moved on up yet, as Kentucky still hasn't done what Memphis did, because they had a trip to the NIT between their final fours, elite eights, etc...

Maryland barely got by Georgetown yesterday by two layups...75-71... Did you put them on the top of your bracketology?

Dave, I'm really getting tired of these pissing contests that you want to continue to have with me and obviously, other than golf, you are clueless about sports and how it all works. Just in case you didn't get my first memo, Maryland will be very good this year and Georgetown is 0-2. Now, go hit a golf ball and then enjoy your Thanksgiving.

so how are we liking the rules changes? Only 4 time outs/ half plus a 30 second shot clock
down from 35 seconds. will we see more fouls called and having more players foul out?

Sadly I think that we will see either a 2-3 zone or the 1-3-1 defense.
Teams may have to stat away from playing man to man unless they are already in the double bonus and the other team is not.

Actually UK brought home the title vs Kansas unlike Memphis Double..... Also Cal has gotten way more talent at UK than he ever would have at Memphis... You think Anthony Davis would have ever considered going to that program.. I think not..... Memphis is a nice program but UK is the top of line when it comes to College Basketball and Memphis ain't even a blue blood program...

We won the championship against Kansas, as well. I have been counting it because unlike most people's officials complaints, in our game the officials LEGIT were so bad it was borderline intentional. With a couple minutes to go the official has his head pointed down LOOKING RIGHT AT Kansas standing on the out of bounds line and doesn't even blow the whistle.

Not happening.
