Camping by redneck definition is a tent by a quite babbling brook high up in the mountains. ( we went camping 2 weeks ago) I love Sharps Creek its a very safe place to camp if you have children lots of good swimming.

I prefer just tenting it. A few sleeping bags, a cooler, an axe, a couple matches, and beautiful scenery. Rainstorms are welcome!

Although I have often though in the open would be fun also. Just scared of mosquitos. If there is one within 10 miles it will find me...lol. I have been primative camping though on an island that you had to get to by boat and it was great! Even the thunderstorm that we weathered through was fun!

Go to Google and search on "String Hammock". You'll find a bunch of them for under $20.00.
A lot of them have a max load of 60Kg (133 lbs).
I made one using parachute cord. The materials cost me around $10.00 and it should support more than 300 lbs. When packed, it's about the size of a 16" softball.

never tried to build a shelter like that sticks and brush right. i guess that would be kind of hard in somehwhere like south dakota without a lot of trees. or the desert. what would you use there.

Tenting is the best in remote locations well away from any towns and crowds or other people where you have lots of privacy to do what you love to do.

this weekend i was tent camping, and i was cold. weekend before i wound up soaked to the bone. still love my camping though. i will definitly have to give tha hammock thing a try myself though.. just set it up near a fire and stay warm. hehhehe!!
seriously though it does look quite comfortable, and i would definitly give up the tent for it.

you wont regret the hammock! although i do still bring my sleeping pad. it gets cold at night where i camp, even in the summer the lows are in the low 40s. so that breeze going under you will cool your back. the sleeping pad will keep your back warm.

I love to ruf it all the way, I have always love to have a good man, a tent, and the outdoors, and then see where it goes from there. At times who knows there may be a few more noises from nature. LOL

Depending on the weather, I usually pack in with a one man tent or a deluxe bivy and car camp with a three man tent. When the bugs are unlikely to be a problem and it's going to stay in the 40's, I'll pitch fly and footprint only if there's a chance of rain or just sleep on the footprint if there isn't. I have to say tenting all the way though because 30's and a chance of rain is pretty much the norm.
Check out the camp chair. No, I didn't pack that in. Many of my local backcountry destinations are popular with horsepackers and it isn't unusual to find them stashing a few things like chairs or tripod grills there a month before hunting season starts.

I love tent camping, but CHF & AFib don't let me do it as often as I used to, so now it's mostly trailer or cabin.
Ex's idea of camping was no heated pool at the hotel and roughing it was no pool at all Unfortunately the woman I'm seeing now has already said she 'doesn't do' camping, but is at least willing to take walks in the woods and has suggested a nice cabin as long as it has indoor plumbing and a HOT shower.

We do four season backpacking/hiking in the Dacks with the weather changing rapidly. You don't want to get caught out there unprepared in these, or most mountains. Sad to say many do and many more accidents happen every year. It's been fun here since 1988 even in thity below!

Tent- I camp every weekend in the late spring to early fall and I always tent it. I used to sleep out in the open when I was younger but a few skunks and a closer encounter with a bear and mountain lion took care of that!

Best way to camp in my oppinion is hike up a mountian and get the F*** away from people and just enjoy the wild. Hard to do in some areas but if i were to recommend a place i would have to say the Olympic Mountians in Wasington state.
