Adoption is cool... admirable even. But if you think you can love an adopted child just as much as a biological, you're fooling yourself.

I'm not saying people can't love adopted children, because I know they CAN. I'm saying it's DIFFERENT.

Sorry, if you're adopted... but it's true. Anything else is just a lie.

Maybe . If having a child is that important for our relationship I guess would agree. But I would accept the fact that we can't have kids .

Guess you've never had a puppy.

Worming, vaccinations, adult shots, teeth cleanings obedience school, toys...

The only thing you save on is college.

For the first two years, feeding the kid is free. The milk is "home grown" you don't incur any real costs until Junior High, when they make it their mission to blow up the food budget.

2 years???? babies start on solid food at 4-6 months

You don't have a clue do you if you really believe a puppy costs anything even close to a child

15yr old dog, $10 dry food every two weeks

15yr old kid...$100 a week + clothing + entertainment + school stuff + breakages/wear and tear....

I know it costs me 3500 to have the cataracts removed from my 18 year old dog. And because of allergies I was paying 48.00 a bag for her food.

And these days, some mothers are breastfeeding up to 4 years.

To answer:

In my day...a partner was usually a male friend....so nope, I can't see either scenario happening.

But I was young and married and we wanted to have kids and couldn't....I'd feel its a good viable option.

I'm not sure why this was just asked of the men, but I think if the world was surveyed, we'd find those of both genders both for and against it...with varied reasons.

Are you saying women can't make decisions for themselves?

Ultimately the decision is the womans.

Again, one of the saddest things I've ever read. You really have a terrible and skewed idea of men. LOL aside. (You know, adding that doesn't excuse the sentiment.)

I have known many men who have gladly and completely accepted, embraced, and whole-heartedly loved the child they brought in to their homes to parent. Whether that was to adopt and/or by marrying their mother. You don't have to have given birth to love someone so fiercely that you'd give up your own life for them.

The accident of birth means nothing. Taking a child in grows in love regardless of how they got there.

It's really sad and quite the indictment on someone's character to be thinking "yeah, I love you sort of, but you're not really mine so if it comes to it, I'd sacrifice you" when you're raising someone you didn't contribute DNA to.

People who think this way are limited.

Love is love and comes from the soul.

I personally think I could love more someone biologically unrelated to me, but similar to me in their spirit, than perhaps someone with my same DNA but incompatible with me.

It isn't about men but when a couple adopts a child say a minority or Indian, then those ethnicities will complain that the child should be with "There own kind" even if the environment is not safe. I say this from a case a few years back about a white couple having love in there hearts but the ethnicity is first priority. So a child gets Cheated out of a great life by selfishness of tradition and no diversity whatsoever!

There is wisdom in this comment.

I am unsure of how one is to interpret this question. On the one hand it may be a question about 'adoption' as providing the duty of care for a child from outside his relationship with his significant other,

The second way to interpret the question is to assume that the person asking has either a child or children already and is curious whether this situation creates an obstruction to meeting a man.

The second interpretation is the one that should be addressed. Conversely there is a question about the possibility of a man having children either in his care or in the care of an ex-wife. The practical considerations of a blended family if the children of the man are in his custody then makes the question equally important both ways.

Having been in this situation, of a marriage to a woman with a child and again a blended family later the quote above is probably the guiding factor.

There is a term used for teachers "In Loco Parentis" which is a legal term that states that the teacher has the responsibility to act in a manner which would be in accordance with the way they would 'as if' they were the parent of the student. This is generally understood as a 'Duty of Care' issue. In small measure this is the position that the society expects of teachers. However, the teacher does not have the depth or breadth that a parent has, which is much more vast and deep.

Will all the children in care of the parents be given equal opportunities? If I am the major contributor of finances to the family will my resources be shared equally between my own biological children and the adoptive ones. Is the time I spend with the children properly alloted?

It comes to the hearts of the parents and their ability to cooperate, communicate and make sacrifices for the good of the family and all concerned.

D

Sorry for not responding like a lunatic as I usually do - but this is too important an issue to play the fool on.

You know, they are your own when you adopt them. No "as though" about it. It takes no more strength or love than if you were the one who gave birth.
