In the next 30 days I have to pick a supplement to go with Medicare which will go into affect on December 1st. There is so much information out there it is making my head spin. I have a major health issue which requires me seeing a specialist every month. My monthly meds cost $12,000. Anyone have any suggestions?

Good Morning Dee......Good to see you this am!
I just want to mention to you my experience with picking the secondary. (Not for me) but someone I was very involved with. I did some searching...and ended up with Humana. My experience with them in the time there was .....excellent.

Humana handled only the prescription part of his care. I don't remember how much a monthly policy was but it would most likely be different for each person.

Explanations and great information from beginning to end. I hope that many post to this thread with info for you. Down the road, I will need the same into

I have decided to go with Manhattan Life. I am dealing with a site called boomer benefits.com....he explained that the F and G plans have zero payments. F in particular. Wisconsin doesnt go with plans..state requires each person get an individualized plan.So mine would be equal to an F or G.
I researched on line til purple! Check reviews and some of the most touted have the most complaints. As you said..enough to drive you to drink! One thing I am certain of..stay away from AARP. The plans they sell arent them...some insurance company they hooked up with. And they have the highest complaints!

Also, need to reference deeply to see if an HMO, PPO, etc. plan and determine if you want to stay within a specific health care system and/or what your specific needs are. So many insurances require that you stick with with selected providers and you always get screwed if you go outside the network.

I have Aetna since this is what's provided via retirement insurance benefit. No choice except to stay with them because to go elsewhere will terminate my eligibility for the retirement benefit and I can never get back in. So far it's worked, but one really doesn't know about any insc. until you need it. Seems each year the formulary drug list gets smaller and the fine print gets longer. If you read any document and the term "may, or could" is inserted then start reading between the lines because when using the term may, then it also means may not. Good luck with your search.

Dee, I also have Aetna as the parent company.

I picked Health America as my supplement.

Have had no problems with them.

I am trying to help out Joe figure it out too. The one thing I do know is to stay away from the advantage plans. They are the HMO/PPos. What I have read is a slew of denials, lost referrals, hidden costs and restrictions. So many complaints to the point I read about the government seeking to ban them.

orz, I have an Advantra plan, have never had a problem in over 5 years. It depends on the parent company.

You are lucky. I guess the problem is co-pays that sneak up on people. And which insurance company CAN one trust?

I have "Emblema" and I am pleased. My friend has AARP and she is also pleased.
I don't know if things are different in each state.
Good luck

Best policies I've seen in NJ is Horizon ..whatever Medicare recognizes and pays Horizon pays that 20 percent..you have to find Drs and hosps that accept Medicare..

don't be afraid to find help for meds if SS is your only income...you may qualify to get help with RXs..with small co pays

OP did you read this..
