I have seen in tv shows this tendency to call women the male characters are dating "woman," usually in some sort of demeaning tone, though not always. Usually it is black people saying it, but not always.

But recently, I have heard it from one of my neighbors... to his mom. Every time I hear it, I have to supress the urge to punch the kid in his mouth.

I have never, EVER, heard anyone call their mom "woman" before in any medium. Is this actually a thing, or is this kid unusually disrespectful?

I haven't heard anyone call their mom "woman" either, in any sort of way.

It seems very disrespectful, especially said in the way you mention. The son probably doesn't respect his mother & it shows.

I gave a physically handicapped buddy a ride home to the house he shares with his retired mother one day. I'd just gotten to the bar after work and some folks begged me to take his drunk a** home. Turning around immediately with him under one arm, and without so much as a sip of cold beer in my system, I drive him to his house.

His momma gave him an earful and looked daggers at me for contributing to his inebriation. I got an earful about it too. I didn't contradict her. I just wanted to vamoose after my good deed for the day. But then Willie said in his loud voice "Be quiet woman!" PISSED...HER...OFF! I helped him into his room as fast as I could and hauled ass. He told me that he explained to her that I wasn't the one who got him drunk. I was just the guy trying to help a brother out.

I was morbidly curious to hear how the rest of their conversation went. But glad I didn't stay.

My daughters will say it to me. But rarely it is said disrespectfully. We have a very close relationship and say many things to each other that would be taken wrong by an outsider.

Understanding the relationship between two people and what it is they deem offensive would definitely be in your best interest.

This is truth.

My late wife and I bantered back and forth all the time. I'd call her cow occasionally, she'd call me shithead. But NEVER was any of it disrespectful or malicious. (we had other colorful names for each other as well, but they need not be repeated)

Although, calling your own mother anything other than "mom" or any of the other thousand different versions of "mom" just doesn't seem right. Hell I hated my mom but I never called her anything other than that... Well I did call her a b*tch once but only because she called my twin step-daughters little chinks. (they were/are japanese)

Woman!

I've been hearin' 'bout the things you say
Woman, yeah
I don't want you talkin' that way
Wanna take you home, give you some money
Every time I try, you think that it's funny
Woman, yeah
I don't want you talkin' that way
Don't want to break you
I just want to make it, oh yeah, yeah, yeah, hey

Woman
Oh, how about you and me?
Woman
Think about what it could be
Wanna take you home, do things to you
Every time I try, you just think that I'm foolin'
Woman, woah
How about you and me?
Don't wanna break you
I just want to make you, oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Come on, do it for me once!

Oh, woman, yeah
I don't want you to act so bad
Woman, yeah, yeah, yeah
You're the best thing I ever had
Wanna take you home, spend my time with you
You see it, babe, it's clear that I miss you

Woman, yeah, yeah, yeah
I don't want you to act so bad
I don't wanna break you
I just wanna make it, oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Ah, ah, ah, ah woman
Why do you, why do you act that way?
Woman, yeah, yeah, yeah
You know what?
Ah, good God!
Ya know what?
Aw, get it on!

All my kids have called me woman ... usually "you crazy woman" .. but its said with a funny undertone .. or affection. More like talking in a character like manner .. like mimicking someone from TV, just being silly. I think sometimes only words are heard, and the playful tone is missed by those who do not have the same kind of family dynamic.

Woman you can change my world
Woman you can change my world
I'm chained to the fears
Inside these walls
The silence talks loud
'Bout the things I recall
Through the bricks in the window
I scream at the world
But when no one is listening
It's hard to be heard
Woman you can change my world
Woman there'll be no return
I see shadows
Coming through the walls
I hear voices
But no one's talking at all
I can feel the madness
Crawling up my spine
Reachin' out
To grab your mind
Woman come and change my world
They won't leave me alone
(Do you remember all those tears?)
I pretend to be strong
I'm getting tired of the game
I cannot live I cannot die
I want to know who the hell am I
You've never seen me
But I know you so well
And before it kills me
I gotta break the spell

I can definitely say it is not being said affectionately.

It's more like "WOMAN,leave me the f**k alone." (his exact words)
He is quite loud and quite obnoxious. The kid is home schooled and doesn't wake up until 2 in the afternoon. He is apparently failing (I can hear the arguments about it sometimes) and he has called his mom b*tch on multiple occasions that I have heard. It is the "woman" thing that is really weird to me though.

^^^^^^^^Cal....if he said it like that...then its a sure bet, that he could have said: b*tch or something else and likely wanted to at the time.

But, not wanting to say that or go that far...he simply said woman, with a bit of accent to it.

I agree a kid doing that to his mom...is not cool.

Here's one thing though....many times people do watch shows and movies that show this and that and pick up on it...and start to use it in the real world.

That's pretty typical of any society.

Which is why some people feel, there should be a limit on free speech and how it is applied. Meaning when something appears bad for society in the long run,....then curb it and put a limit on it.

The problem with our society is that too many see things differently...and the way the liberals put their priorities..."anything goes" that's why we are such a mess these days.

I suppose, saying "woman" in a manner like this is a direct reflection of the lack of respect and appreciation for men in general that women in general show these days...including on T.V. shows, commercials and just in general.

Surely you don't like seeing this either do you?

Yet...you failed to mention it.

It is meant to be disrespectful and why Christ called Mary that in the scripture instead of calling her mother!!

In reality, she was just a woman to Him!!

Well considering the discussion is about children speaking to their mother, I do not see how you last statement is relevant

Oh, you edited it. Yes it makes total sense that a mother would not allow their child to speak to them

Maybe. But letting the neighbor kid get under your skin and thinking its your concern to discipline the child (in such a violent manner at that) because of what goes on with his family on his side of the fence is just pompous and preposterous.

D*ckhead nieghbors like this usually make anonymous calls to CPS on people rather than mind their own or do anything near what Ops self righteous anger filled ego says he wants to do.

Op do you have a child of your own you could maybe worry about.

I think the bottom line is this.

If its really meant to be disrespectful...then it is.

If it isn't meant to be disrespectful....then it isn't.

and every human, no matter the gender will say things when they are pissed off, that they really didn't mean to...but it happens with everyone at times.

but, in the reference the op gave...I can say this, if the father was around or still....the kid likely wouldn't have talked to his mom like that, because he knows what the Dad would have done.

Then again, maybe not...some women won't let their husbands discipline kids when they need it in a certain way.

My kids call me "woman" lovingly.

I am a woman so I see nothing offense about it.

If you have issues that kids on TV ate calling gay men. "woman" then I would boycott the program and lodgeca formal complaint to the station, advertisers, production offices.

A gay man assuming a role of a female in a household/relationship situation IS NOT a WOMAN -- He is a MAN.

Even transitioned males are still MALE.

you are content with it and accept it. that is your rules. you allow it because you like it.

for woman who do not want their children to disrespect them and have no say or don't it is their fault.

if those women have an abusive man who allows the kids to be shits to their mother then it is the mother for putting herself to be with a man like that to allow her babies to mistreat her.

And of course, that is no man at all who would put a woman through that with her babies.

That's taking things way too far.

I understand your point about disciplining kids the right way to prevent this..but at 12 years old, My mom discovered that she couldn't hurt me physically anymore...I was too big, she wasn't strong enough...but that wasn't her fault and I suppose if my Dad wasn't around at that time...who knows how I might have ended up.?

It doesn't make her worthless, Men are better geared to disciplining kids in general and etc.. But, she likely did the best she could do considering.

But I'm sure she has value in enough other things...and unless we walk in another person shoes, we really don't know.

and I'll throw this in here too.

Those without sin....cast the first stone.

Personally I think in general women are too soft on their kids too...but that doesn't make them worthless pieces of crap.

Bee, my uncle breaks abused women down with the phoenix police department and with best psychs on hand.

They gotta know if they are not liking what is happening then they can change it.

But they gotta break to want to change.

I said your rule and acceptances.

and then went on about other women who don't find it acceptable.

there are more than just one view on this topic, ya know?

Ever notice the kind of threads fat boy starts? They always begin with some sort of negative experience he has had or observed.

I surmise he is very lonely and doesn't have any friends. Of course he doesn't since he lives in a colored neighborhood. His neighbors usually lick their lips when they observe his girth!

Anyway, his posting on DH is a cry for help!

Well after 8 years it's about time I spoke up.

Woman up over there are bloody dumb to accept
their kids having guns but are upset about
pet names.

My culture is more laid back.

I'm going to throw this in here.

I knew Iam when he was RLM.....he sure wasn't all religious at that time either.

Well, I have this friend I've known for a long time...good guy too...until recently.

you see, it was discovered that he has this spot on his kidney and needed a very soon surgery and to be safe a biopsy.

He had a strong fear of this surgery and showed it to the Doctors too....and they stopped prioritizing him...he blames that on them, wondering why they prioritized him, then stopped....well, if they get the indication a patient can't make up his mind on the surgery, then they have to move on to the people ready to do the surgery.

Well...this guy decided to go to God and Church and etc....funny how that happens when your feel your in dire straights huh?

Now, this same guy is judging everyone around him....pointing his finger at them for not following the bible ways...yet, he isn't living by those ways either.

Jeez, if God and his son judged everyone like that and decided not to have anything to do with them based on that.

None of us would be here.

See the point? your not following their ways if you judge everyone and hang them too.

I feel each woman must decide what is right for her in what she accepts from her children. Then if the child crosses that boundary she needs to speak up. If she is in position she cannot speak up then someone should for her.

I listed 3 categories this could fall into.

a woman finding it acceptable
a woman not finding it acceptable
an abused woman who cannot change it

where am I judging?

things we hear children say to parents fall somewhere in these categories.

I am outlining.

How are you feeling judged by me giving an outline?

Mothers should be very content having children
who are good law abiding citizens.

Some mothers are just way too picky.

you are a damn good mother and you abide by your own rules. every woman should be able to abide by her own rule as well. if they cannot, there probably is a problem.
