YOU CANNOT VOTE unless you are registered. In order to get registered you have to fill out the registration forms in front of a registration volunteer who verifies your information. Registration closes usually a week or two before voting day giving the State Secretaries office adequate time to review the new registrations to make sure they are legitimate.

Quote from juma2112:
If we truly want to protect our Democratic election processes, why so much resistance to voter I D laws?

Because the money required to get these IDs without the needed documents can be (and often are) in excess of $100, require often significant time off to acquire (costing more money in lost wages) and (thanks to concerted efforts to shorten their supply), often transportation to a far away office to get the documents where they need to go.

People who are most unlikely to do these things are young people and people who are impoverished; and people who are impoverished are more likely to be people of color.

Republicans know This, have admitted as much, and recycle the same baseless claim of voter fraud to justify artificially classing their political opponents out of the Democratic process.

That's why.

Give me a break King. You get a free education in this country no matter if your white, red, yellow, black or green. Your decision to f**k it off as a waste of time in no one's decision but your own. And then cry about the decisions you made? Sorry, no sympathy here.

Why aren't the airlines, banks etc being sued?

We had 17% of legally registered voters show up for the recent election here in Philly.....
our problem is not having too many voters show up, it's too few legal citizen voters not participating in their government.

I really don't think anyone here is against voter laws. I mean, come the f on already. For one thing, there hasn't been a whole lot of people convicted of voter fraud. If they were, usually they were protesters, activists, or individuals that just went out of their way to do it. And really, even though states and counties are notoriously bad at record keeping, I personally have not found any credible evidence or data that proves beyond a reasonable doubt that "millions of illegals" were allowed to vote. (if they were, I doubt Trump would have been elected) Of course, that doesn't mean a few non-citizens can't slip through by simply stating they are a U.S. citizens. Whether they actually vote or not or even vote for your candidate, welp. But millions? At any rate, this doesn't mean that reinforcing the integrity of our voting system can't help. Which, BTW, is another issue both parties might want to think about instead of just pointing fingers.

Yes- too far. When there are single digit amounts of offices in the entirety of a county spanning almost triple digit miles; not having a car can (and does) class you out of the process.

Most Americans are less than $500 from being penniless. The fact that you don't think that $100 is a lot of money is irrelevant. I don't think it is either, but I'm smart enough to know that this just means that I don't have a dog in the fight.

Getting off of work can cost anywhere between $64 and $80 depending on where you live in lost wages.

Don't let your obvious disdain for people of color distract you from credible evidence that it doesn't benefit you to believe, simply because it doesn't effect you. What you're seeing here is little more than a poll tax that is working exactly as it's designed: voting for colored and young people is down.

That bodes poorly for the Democratic process whether it effects you or not.

No.

The closure and cut backs of state ID issuing offices is a well documented (albeit slow and quiet) happenstance across middle America and towards the south. It hurts states with poor infrastructure disproportionately, and particularly rural communities.

Whatever I feel about travel in LA, their public transit system is as functional as any metropolitan area.

the liquor store...

How is it, that same dumb
muthaf**ka, can't come up
with I.D. to vote?

Neither you nor I have a problem voting- I think that's well established.

The difference between us is that I don't agree with telling someone to spend money they may not have and time they may can't afford to lose so they can exercise their hard earned rights, simply because I don't think it's a big deal.

There'd have to be a really good reason for me to support anything that suppresses the vote either directly or indirectly, and this silk-slim voter fraud argument doesn't pass the smell test.

The amount of Americans that are more willing to believe that a person would risk a felony, and a 10k fine so they can spend all day voting as both Mickey and Minnie Mouse, rather than the infinately more credible reason for voter ID laws, which is that poor people are several less likely to have and/or get them, and thus vote, says a lot about the kind of people we have living in this country.

There is no evidence voter ID suppresses voting.

voter id is really very simple. prove your a citizen. that's all. Why the hell the liberal progressive want to complicate it..well to lie. And it up to each and ever citizen to get up off their a** and go vote. If you don't, f**k you if you want to b*tch later.

The Dems don't want voter IDs because that would make it much more difficult to engage in voter fraud for them.

dems don't want anybody to prove they are a citizen. They never have.
Dirty old dusty Constitution...of positive liberties of the individual and negative rights of the Gov't over their lives.

online now!

Quote from 61falcon:
They put the ID issue locations in rural areas, knowing many of the inner city dwellers do not own cars, especially discriminatory to senior citizens and minorities.

What? What urban area doesn't have a registery in a urban area??

Voter-ID laws continue to get a lot of attention, and proponents of the law are being drowned out by opponents claiming the laws discriminate against certain voters.

Rather than getting IDs to the people who are supposedly disenfranchised, opponents spend their efforts trying to end the laws, even though polls consistently show overwhelming majorities of voters approve of the laws.

Below are just some of the examples of things you need to prove your identity for:

1. Alcohol

2. Cigarettes

3. Opening a bank account

4. Apply for food stamps

5. Apply for welfare

6. Apply for Medicaid/Social Security

7. Apply for unemployment or a job

8. Rent/buy a house, apply for a mortgage

9. Drive/buy/rent a car

10. Get on an airplane

11. Get married

12. Purchase a gun

13. Adopt a pet

14. Rent a hotel room

15. Apply for a hunting license

16. Apply for a fishing license

17. Buy a cell phone

18. Visit a casino

19. Pick up a prescription

20. Hold a rally or protest

21. Blood donations

22. Buy an "M" rated video game

23. Purchase nail polish at CVS

24. Purchase certain cold medicines

But not to vote?

Let's not forget, Hillary lost the popular vote until California waiting a month to certify their vote gave their tally.
