This looks like a sorpanese thread to me but it doesn't matter who starts a baseball thread just as long as we have one.

Top 5 in Las Vegas to win the 2017 World Series:

Chicago Cubs 11 to 4
Boston Red Sox 11-2
Cleveland Indians 6 to 1

For futures bettors, and I'm not one of them, this is the way Las Vegas sees it for the division winners and their (over/under) wins for the regular season in 2017:

AL East - Boston - 90.5 wins
AL Central - Cleveland - 92.5 wins
AL West - Houston - 87.5 wins

NL East - Washington - 90.5 wins
NL Central - Chicago - 95.5 wins
NL West - Los Angeles - 91.5 wins

Silly, I agree because it is a very long season and I'll say it again . . . your MLB thread last season was a very good thread for what few of us who are interested in MLB.

Sorp's best friend Hank, and your best friend Cup, are two people we can do without in my opinion and I hope you know that I'm just messing with both of you hoping that both of you will still speak to me again.

WOW, we use to have a lot of people on DH Sports that actually knew something about sports (you and sorp included) but some of the stuff I read on these threads and posts make me wonder what happened to sports when it comes to some who know anything about sports.

I just read that now for the 2017 season the 4 pitch intentional walk has been removed.
The manager will tell the home plate umpire after the batter is announced.
I don't like this idea. I have seen puitchers that have walked the previous batter , go and walk the next batter.

Silly, MLB needs to do many things to speed up the game and I have suggested several things that could do this in previous posts. When MLB implemented instant replay it has slowed the game down even more. One thing in particular that I feel would speed up the game is for the pitcher to be required to throw his next pitch within 30 seconds after receiving the ball back from his catcher and batters being limited on how many times they can step out of the batters box between pitches. I mean who wants to see a pitcher receive the ball back from his catcher, adjust his cap five times, step on the rubber, step off the rubber, scratch his nuts, step back on the rubber, and then deliver his next pitch over a minute later?

I do agree on how long the time it takes to pitch a ball.
I thought that with both Joe Torre and Terry Franconia not managing head to head any more would have helped! Those games were out of hand.

Girardi says give a 3 way connection between mgr, pitcher and catcher and this could speed up game..if there is a runner in scoring position a pitcher should throw 4 pitches...esp if you wanna walk a hitter to get next batter out

Silly, I'm okay with the intentional walk rule change to speed up the game as long as there is not a runner on base in scoring position.

I'm for anything that makes sense to speed up the game but MLB takes a lot of pride in being the only major sport not played by a clock. With that stupid DH rule in the American League many of those games can last for over four hours with a final score of 12-11.

Pitchers in the bullpen are like doctors these days. They are all specialists. In many cases the managers call on them to pitch to just one batter and in many cases that pitcher throws just one pitch. This alone takes up over 15 minutes in actual time.

If the Pirates opened their season in Pittsburgh the weather might be worse than Boston's weather at that time.

Silly, We never know what the weather might bring us. Here in Raleigh we have had 5 days in this month of February with high temperatures of over 80 degrees and today on this last day of February we might get number 6. In 130 years of weather record keeping here this has never happened.

Glad to see that MLB is finally taking another step to protect the coaches on the field.
they are finally being made to stat behind the lines before each pitch is thrown.
I have seen too many of these so called former athletes get hit by the ball.
Sadly it took one coach getting killed by a foul ball to get MLB to make them finally wear helmets!

Martinez is your opening day starter.
The Pirate staring outfield should be the strength of the team.
We have question marks at 3rd, short and behind the plate.
Also can our starters make it through a entire season healthy.
We should not finish under .500 this season.

I don't expect the Cardinals or the Pirates to finish under .500 this year. The problem is that I expect the Cubs to finish MANY games over .500 in the NL Central.

The Cubs might not have to win 100 games to be the World Series champions once again. With the pitching, line up, and manager they have who is going to beat them?

Vegas says NOBODY but we'll see.

they moved out of that other park for both safety and money reasons.
The old location was staring to decline and become less safe.
The new park is located in the area where most of the ticket holders were coming from.

Had to save this one for today here...

The April Fools' case:

Defense Attorney:
Will you please state your age?

Little Old Lady:
I am 86 years old.

Defense Attorney:
Will you tell us, in your own words, what happened the night of April 1st?

Little Old Lady:
There I was, sitting there in my swing on my front porch on a warm spring evening,
when a young man comes creeping up on the porch and sat down beside me..

Defense Attorney:
Did you know him?

Little Old Lady:
No, but he sure was friendly..

Defense Attorney:
What happened after he sat down?

Little Old Lady:
He started to rub my thigh.

Defense Attorney:
Did you stop him?

Little Old Lady:
No, I didn't stop him.

Defense Attorney:
Why not?

Little Old Lady:
It felt good. Nobody had done that since my Albert died some 30 years ago..

Defense Attorney:
What happened next?

Little Old Lady:
He began to rub my breasts.

Defense Attorney:
Did you stop him then?

Little Old Lady:
No, I did not stop him..

Defense Attorney:
Why not?

Little Old Lady:
His rubbing made me feel all alive and excited. I haven't felt that good in years!

Defense Attorney:
What happened next?

Little Old Lady:
Well, by then, I was feeling so 'spicy' that I just laid down and told him
'Take me, young man. Take me now!'

Defense Attorney:
Did he take you?

Little Old Lady:
Hell, no! He just yelled, 'April Fool!' And that's when I shot him, the little bastard.

HAPPY APRIL FOOL'S DAY EVERYONE....

I like the extension that St. Louis did with their catcher. Decent money for the term.
LET THE SEASON BEGIN!!!

Silly, Today might be the only time this season that the Cardinals lead the Cubs in the NL Central standings but on this day they do. Good luck to your Pirates today in their opener.

@ Sorp,

While I was working out yesterday on the treadmill at my health club with a tv monitor in front of my face and my earpiece in I thought I heard the ESPN announcer say while I was watching and listening to the Yankees game that the Yankees have lost six straight opening day games. Is this correct or did I hear it wrong?
