Silly, That's an easy question to answer. It's our division, the NL Central, where the first place Brewers are only three games over .500 and the second place Cardinals are only .500

Today's baseball news of note:

Jim Piersall dies at 87.

Albert Pujols hits number 600.

Houston wins their 9th in a row.

Silly, This NL Central is not only weak but crazy. Since the beginning of the season the Cardinals have gone from last place to first place and they are about to go into last place again. I look for the Cubs to start taking charge of this division soon.

Houston is beginning to look like the Cubs of last year running away with their division winning 10 in a row and leading the second place Angels by 13 1/2 games and we're only in early June. With a record of 41-16 that's playing .719 baseball and what's even more impressive is that more than half of their wins have been away from home.

Make that 11 in a row that Houston has won!

A manager earns his pay by continuing to keep his team motivated enough to play and keep on winning when they lead their division by 20 games or more which might be the case for Houston soon with the way they are playing. I guess we will find out what kind of manager Houston has when their players become bored with winning all the time.

Well Joe, Houston has now lost 1 in a row as their 11 game winning streak was broken last night. Houston, like all teams, will have a losing streak before the season is over but it probably won't matter since they will be leading their division by many games when they have their losing streak.

Your division, the AL East, remains very close. Good luck with you O's.

Joe, I have told Silly many times that the Cubs have the best talent right now of any team in the NL Central and they will take charge of this dvision soon.

My mama didn't raise no dumb youngins! Since you don't live in the south that means that I make a lot of money betting on just about all sports.

Your O's are still in it and I agree with you, it will be a dog fight until the end of the season in the AL East.

The only problem for Pirates fans is that when the baseball season does start the Pirates will have to start in last place unless the Cardinals take that no so good honor away from them. With that said, the NL Central is so weak so far that the last place team could still make a charge to the front.

Overall the Cardinals starting rotation has not been too bad but their bullpen has been AWEFUL. On top of that several position players who hit .280 to .300 last year are hitting in the low .200s so far. This is not exactly the formula for winning.

Silly, Even if Houston ends the regular season with the best record in all of baseball they will not be the AL champs unless they enter the playoffs hot and stay that way to become the AL champs.

Many teams in the past peak way too soon and win their division by many games and then start playing sloppy baseball entering the playoffs flat. When this happens they are at home watching the playoffs after the first round in many cases.

Silly, Maybe baseball season won't start today in Pittsburgh since the Pittsburgh fans are still too drunk to find the stadium as they continue to celebrate the Penguins championship. The Pirates game could be cancelled due to lack of attendance.

@ Sorp,

For even money Las Vegas has just put up the number 60 over or under on the total number of home runs Judge will hit by the end of the regular season. What do you think?

I wouldn't touch this bet but I would lean to the under simply because an injury is possible and I think he will be walked intentionally a lot late in the season with men on base in a close game in a pennant race.

Judge made adjustments...I think he'll hit 40ish but will hit over .300 because he's taking pitches the other way...he's cut down striking out...one day Sanchez may move to first, then DH...I thinks Judge has 50RBIs now...to walk judge the Yanks betta protect him in order...as season progresses it will be interesting to see how good this team can be vs 98 team that has good pitching and timely hitting, this one maybe betta hitting and power, decent defense..b4 trading deadline will yanks seem and find a starter...like a #3 from a team looking to trade one...I like Cole of Pirates...silly I'll give Greg Bird for him and a prospect

Sorp, You're leaning to the under 60 home runs even more than I am. Another reason I would lean to the under is that if the Yankees have a decent lead in their division with a couple of weeks left in the regular season Girardi will probably be resting Judge some before the playoffs begin.

I don't think you want Cole because he only has two pitches. Silly even said that Cole needs to develop more pitches. Can I have Holiday back even though he is hitting only around .260? That would be a big batting average in the Cardinal line up these days.

The only glaring weakness I see in the Yankees right now is their bottom 3 hitters.

Silly, I've seen this happen many times with all teams. A player can't hit his weight with the team he is playing for and once he is traded he starts knocking the cover off the ball.

Hank disappeared when the Mets started having their meltdown last year and I doubt that we will be hearing from again anytime soon since the Mets are about 10 games behind the first place Nationals.

And yet so many teams in contention...I remember 1976 when there were no serious races (or wild cards) in any of the 4 divisions--the Reds, Phillies, Yankees and Royals simply dominated their respective divisional rivals. Sorp, Those west coast trips are tough on east coast teams just like east coast trips are tough on west coast teams. The Yankees are having a tough west coast trip so far against bad teams but if it makes you feel any better the Red Sox are beginning a series tonight on the road against the best team in MLB so far.

@ Silly,

Your Pirates are finally out of the basement and charging hard to take over third place in the NL Central from my fading Cardinals.

Hurdle put Watson in again in the 9th inning!!!
Watson doesn't throw hard enough to be a closer.

Sorp, Those west coast trips are tough on east coast teams just like east coast trips are tough on west coast teams. The Yankees are having a tough west coast trip so far against bad teams but if it makes you feel any better the Red Sox are beginning a series tonight on the road against the best team in MLB so far.

Lost 2nd straight to A's...fourth straight loss..my eyes are half closed..

West Coast trips are even tough on Sorp trying to stay awake until the last out is made.

Silly, The Cubs owe the Pirates some pay back but the Pirates should have a good chance tonight against a Cub's starter who has been struggling lately.

we did get the win tonight. Oh if we had a real batter that could hit for power.

Sorp will trade Judge to you for your entire team. Then you will have power in your line up to hit behind all of the minor leaguers you call up.
