How do I hate oaks..let me count the ways. If I could get the two cut down by the house, raking would be a breeze!

LOL!!! I love it. When I take off and go cross country in one of my old cars, I have a huge checklist of parts and tools that go with. One of these years, obviously before I kick the bucket, I am going to drive Route 66 once more and do it in my 63 Chevy Corvair Spyder.

Joe is hung up on doing the Route 66 thing too. I dont see the attraction myself. Might as well hook up a wagon and do the Oregon Trail. I guess the ruts still show so can follow it too.
From what I hear, not much of 66 left. Towns are gone or changed, part of the highways are gone. So..????See some old garage?

A trip you won't regret or soon forget. I've done California, Arizona and New Mexico many times. A lot of 66 still exists in Arizona and thru the Mojave Desert in California. My favorite Arizona towns are Williams, Seligman and Oatman. As the Nike t-shirts say......Just Do It.

The "Just Do IT" logo is so correct. As long as you don't blow the mortgage money or take food out of the baby's mouth, let loose and enjoy some of our beautiful country. We can always find reasons to not do it, but the memories are so wonderful.

I sorted out my paperwork to take to H&R..does that count? Joe and I scrounged the farm for metal sheets. He got the 49 fired up and back up to the bodyshop. Then it ran out of gas. Refused to run again after he added some so backed it in on the starter. He started to take the added bits off the frame so he can weld a hunk of new metal on. And we looked on line trying to find out how to take the arms apart that are what it uses as shocks. One moves, the other is frozen. He headed back with several chunks of steel and a template he made of the piece to cut for the frame. I said could buy a new frame but pain to replace it. He said not that as much as they want 16K for a new one. OKKKKKKK...so a welding we will go! Go old Wis rust after 68 years.

Mornings are for doing other things with Joe. And the rest of the day is welding rust. Amazing what 68 years does to a 49 Chevy truck that you dont know until you take the box off. sigh... Joe said if I had tried to drive it even to neighbors. good chance the frame would have gone. At least he can fix it. Be lost without him. Poor old patient loyal truck.

I have noticed on all the TV rebuilding shows that Rusted out frames are a major problem.
My dad had a 66 Chevy that was well cared for he boughadat new, one day I saw he had parked it out in the trees when I asked what's deal with the 66? he said the frame rusted into Total surprise. After that I'm scared of anything older than 10 years as to the frame. I'm willing to bet many a good looking car that is for sale has this problem waiting for you if you don't see it before you buy it.

Neighbor had all the chrome redone for his 58 Cameo. I dont remember what he said it cost but was in the thousands! My 63 Impala has the dog legs gone. My white Cadi took out the section that held the rear end on. Finally found out why she did a shimmy shake sometimes.
We bought a 70s Chevy for the engine..327 that went in my Jag. Husband pushed the hell out of it on the highway home. Was sitting in the parking area. He decided to move it up into the barnyard. He got out and BANG. He said someone here. No I yelled up. YOU slammed a car door? Uh..no? Holly S***! He turned back and looked under the car. There sat the same hunk of frame dug into the dirt so deep it took the farmer with tractor to drag it up and over it. What if it had gone on the highway! Some carni ride!!

Miss Orz'..... the hood trims the trunk trims and rear tail light trims and license plate brackets etc cost $2500.00 show quality this is not counting the Bumpers..

......They wanted $1100.00 to do the back bumper show quality... I decided against that.. as mine are in good shape but not triple chrome show quality..

..............The reason I done the Trim's is its Pot Metal and had pits in them and I didn't like it.. Pot Mental is expensive to rechrome..

When I die, inheritors get what I leave behind. Why let go. Only things I dont really love. And one I did...my Jag. That was one that went to someone better able to provide than inheritors would have. Hard to do but as the saying..if you love something, let it go.
When ex and I were junking..I got the copper wire and the die cast. I was hep on 50s Buicks. Man were they loaded with die cast, trim, bumpers. I could go around with a maul and strip them in 10 minutes of die cast. I luv chrome. That is what sucks on new cars, all plastic painted and no chrome. I want one of those solid "chrome" hot rods.
What is good about rain..washing my Impala that I left outside for it. lol. Econo wash.
