Quote from sankie1:
Back to the sanity of home. Talk about having to aclimate going from a soft bed to a pop up camper with a 4 inch piece of foam rubber for a bed. Cooled drastically on Saturday and left for camping on Sunday. Two nights were around 50 degrees and so nice to set by a campfire then snuggle beneath heavy cover for the night. Good sleeping. Ate better there than at home. Took plenty of food and on the cooler days had vegetable soup.

Fishing was great. Since this stream is stocked by the National Fish Hatchery that is a part of the camping area they have a low limit on how many you can keep per day. Right now it's 5 per person, per day. There was a wounded warrier fishing day on Monday so the stream was stocked especially for that event and there were 12 and 14 inch rainbow trout for the taking. Freezer is now full of trout for some tasty dinners.

Warmed on Wednesday but still nice around the water. No fishing today because had to pack up and come home. Always makes me wish I'd reserved a few more days but it has to end sometime.

Wildlife was the subject I enterd when I opened this thread. Heard a noise the other morning while eating breakfast and there stood an 8 point buck not 20 feet from the picnic table. Then at night the skunks took over the joint. Of course they have no competition and if they want to roam beneath the picnic table you let them and see how far the other way you can go. There were 3 that made their rounds every night from campsite to campsite and they weren't in a hurry. Could almost set your clock by them. Come 7:30 you saw a movement in the weeks and YEP, they had come to visit. I was setting beside the campfire last night and caught a movement out of the corner of my eye. Not 10 feet beside me was this stripped little puddy cat. SHOOT....and that's putting it mildly. Didn't know I could move that fast.

~ Welcome back! Sounds like the sanctity of a good camping trip is what the Dr. ordered. I bet that fresh fist taste wonderful but then again doesn't everything when it is cooked out doors and a campfire is involved? I'm happy jealous, it sounds like you had a wonderful time, thanks for sharing with us.

...... you didn't want to bring one of those little cute kitty's home??

Now Sheza, that's one putty cat that I didn't want to get aquainted with. He seemed awe struck with me though. Should have seen me making the trip to the bath house just before bed each night. Walked smack down the middle of the road and swinging my flash light like a beacon from ditch to ditch?

It got to the point that if I said SKUNK in a raised voice my little dog ran for the step of the camper. She knew something wasn't right but never figured it out except the tone of my voice told her it was time to get out of dodge.

Sounds like a great ending to summer. I have found skunks are so laid back they only spray if hurt. Trapped they raise in warning. So unless you tripped over one...
I saw my gander fly up and come straight down and knock the stuffing out of a young skunk. And all it did was run for the river bottoms with gander in pursuit. Guess it knew no danger from a goose like dog or fox.
I taught the dog and now the cats the word DANGER! They do listen. Also HOT. Although sometimes the nose over whelms the brain. lol.

I will be taking a sleeping pill shortly and hopefully will

be able to sleep for more than 4 hours.

If that doesn't work Monday I will be having two glasses of wine

an hour and a half before I go to bed.

Same here until last year. Around Mid-Sept rec'd a packet from retirement insc. company stating they were taking over for Medicare and I had a short while to decide whether to accept the "NEW". The choice was either to say with the offer or stay with Medicare and seek secondary coverage elsewhere.leave the company and seek other secondary coverage should I decide to stay with Medicare. Once out could never get back to having retirement insc. again. So far, it's worked but second year ready to start and just rec'd another package about an inch thick to show changes in the plan for 2017. Haven't had the patience yet to start reading through it. Bet it's less than they offered for 2016.

Beautiful Day in this part of the country. Another cool front moved in and I'm thinking the weather man got this one wrong. Baby, it's cold outside. Just because we'd had so many 90 degree days. Swaddled in sweat pants and warm shirt this morning and enjoying the brisk air.

~ Ventured out all day yesterday, treated to a good o' small town catfish dinner. I spied the simple signs and the parking lot was full enough to indicate there were some good eats going on behind the doors of that older building. And thank goodness I ordered the small, the serving was HUGE!!! I thought the gal made a mistake with my order and gave me a large but nope, she said it was the small. Holy COW!! Parking lot proved to be true, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. Another thing about the parking lot, there was a section reserved for carry-out, not just one or two signs but like SIX!!! Also a good sign. Not only was the catfish and hush puppies excellent but the homemade tartar sauce was fantastic even though I don't use much, and my baked potato was cooked to perfection. Slaw wasn't bad for someone that isn't a big slaw eater but it comes with the meal. Wish it wasn't so far away I would love to go back.

~ It just seemed to invite friendliness as well. Struck up a convo with a loan biker that said he lived just north of Detroit. I mentioned where MC lives and he said he knew of the place. I could kick myself for not remembering where he said he lived specifically. Had a pleasant conversation with him and I suggested he head up to the Blue Ridge for his riding and mentioned a place for him to stay that had biker cabins. He was just winging it and said he didn't have to be back till next Tuesday and that he would head up that way. I advised him to watch for, not only deer but black bears as they do tend to get in the way of motorist and of course being black you can't see them till it's too late. Plus, they will roam later into the night than deer do. He was breaking in his new Victory motorcycle. Traveling alone and just doing his thing. truth be told, someone I would not have minded getting to know better. He looked to be about my age, except he had a wedding ring on. Just my luck.

~ Nothing beats a small town good o'catfish dinner place.

~ Hope all are having a good day and enjoying the fall weather.

~ MC ... I hope things have dried out for you and you are able to enjoy the weather as well.

Sheza, glad you found such a great place to have a catfish dinner. The biker sounds like someone most would enjoy meeting with not being stuck in a routine to where he can't break free for a few days. One thing about the Blue Ridge Parkway is also the fog. Gets so thick after leaving TN and heading toward VA that you can't manouver without going at a crawl. I got in that one time and it was around 10 AM. There was a vehicle behind me and I finally found a rest stop and pulled over. The guy pulled over also. THEN I SAW that it was the sheriff's car. He came to my window and said "Mam, would you please turn on your lights". I advised that they were on. NO MAM, just the running lights which doesn't give you tail lights. HUH. Learned a lesson that day. Had no clue and thought if the headlights were on then so were the tail lights because it is a safety issue. Evidently the engineers hadn't thought of that when they were planning that design. Now, I don't take a chance. Just turn on the lights period.

I did enough. But, right in the fact that that idea flew out the window more and more with each passing birthday! Seems I get cold more now. Yep..that must be the reason for more clothes!
I couldnt see the water in the beans yesterday. But, damn had half the gates open and river still high, although dropping. Some fields picked around here, but too many with water standing. If the crops hang on, at least they wont drown if staying upright. Not like grow season. Still scary. I am hoping my fields are drying out. Or Grant can rent a swamp tractor! I need to call him anyway..time to fill old freezers with winters corn for chickens. And see if he got the paperwork for the blasted county. Nutrient levels for fields. Any program with them they come up with 50 stupid, non-relevent hoops to jump through. No use calling on weekend though...he may be pie-eyed. lol.

With farming, why is it that when the crops are ready to harvest, the weather changes to make it the worst conditions of the year and you stand to loose everything you've put into it for that year. That's farming in a nutshell. If it can go wrong, it will.

Tell me about it. Although busted it yesterday and got lots done. Got the directional housing rust proofed and painted. Went up on cottage and sealed the cracks in tar. Tried Duck Patch. Hopes THAT does it! Got polycarb, drill, screws, screw driver and broom up on pergola. Swept old PVC crap roof. Laid out poly sheets. Damn it! Cant reach wood through it and the bumps from PVC. So laid out the other way. And of course, bumps fight each other. So got what screws in I could and got a bit more than half roof re-done. Need some longer screws too. And got a cut off piece and patched the one other crack. Good til next year.
Went to dogtrot, dug down by first old post and new and got it shifted to be alongside and re-buried. Went to tractor and masked decals. Locked up barn. And dark so had to stop.
Would have had earlier start except waited for insurance gal to show. Called at noon..oh..gee..I forgot..sorry. She will pass on to one of her guys to call and set up. I was close to saying..you are a piss poor insurance salesman arent you.
But, then glass shop called..home? Send guy to put in your new window half. Fine. So went on deck, swept and stacked some buckets with dead plants. Usually I have to cover thriving tomato plants for frost. This year..crap! Peppers and peanuts are the only good ones still growing.
Nice this am...I can actually SEE out both sides of the window in DR!

That makes two of us. What Orz needs to do is have a two week vacation spot (work included) as does the cattle ranches. Of course she'd probably loose it having to deal with city dwellers not knowing which end of the cow to milk.

Good one Sheza.

Now, when was the last time you over heard someone describing "how poor they were when growing up". Heard one the other day that is the best.

Guy said that when he was a kid he had to eat his cereal with a fork so the other kids could have the milk.
