OK I'M not sure memory not to good and I woun't bother to research it but what Carter signed I think started the shut down.  Libarals wanted them closed over alleged abuse in them. The truth was they did need modern updating but closing was wrong who ever did it.

Why are you always hitting and running and never providing a link? I'll admit, they aren't always needed, but frequently they are. Probably what you are talking about is Carter signed the mental Health Act and as always, it wasn't broad enough. If I was going to constantly attack someone as you do here and on the political forum, I would at least provide some links or clues that you know what you're talking about.  Maybe Clinton waited too long to sign..it's your claim, you look it up. Anyway, it must have been a pretty helpful, decent bill because the minute Reagan got in office, he got rid of it. Typical Republican.

In a new poll released Thursday by The New York Times and CBS News, the former Secretary of State and likely Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton leads billionaire buffoon and presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump by six points – 47 to 41 – among general election voters.
While the survey shows both Trump and Clinton with favorability ratings under water, Trump performs slightly poorer with a 55 percent unfavorable rating among the broader electorate. Clinton is seen in an unfavorable light by 52 percent of voters.
About half of those surveyed believe the former Secretary of State has the right kind of temperament to be president, while seven out of 10 said Trump does not.
Trump’s dismal performance among key voting blocs gives Clinton the edge going into November, the poll shows.
Among women voters, a whopping 60 percent view Trump unfavorably. A scant 14 percent of voters under the age of 30 view him positively, and nearly 70 percent of nonwhite voters have a negative opinion of Trump – a kiss of death to any candidate hoping to win a national election in 2016.
As the presumptive GOP nominee faces heat for keeping his tax returns private, the survey showed that six in 10 voters believe that any candidate running for president should make the records available to the public.

Students at a local school were assigned to read 2 books, "Titanic" & "My Life" by Bill Clinton.
One student turned in the following book report, with the proposition that they were nearly identical stories!
His cool professor gave him an A+ for this report.

President Obama Proposes Expanding Social Security Benefits

President Barack Obama on Wednesday called for an expansion of Social Security benefits, saying that the program was more necessary than ever to support an aging population.
Speaking at a high school in Elkhart, Indiana, Obama noted there are some Americans who don't have retirement savings and those who might not be able to save money because they are unable to pay the bills.
"We can't afford to weaken Social Security, we should be strengthening Social Security," Obama said. "And not only do we need to strengthen its long term health, it's time we finally made Social Security more generous and increased its benefits so today's retirees and future generations get the dignified retirement that they have earned."
Obama suggested the country pay for expanding Social Security by asking the "wealthiest Americans to contribute a little bit more."
"They can afford it," he added. "I can afford it."

Well now -- I ponder why the first 3 years of Obama's first term the Democratically led Congress approved no COLA increase and why this year a Republican Congress approved no COLA increase but I don't ponder on why Obama has nothing to with what Congress approves except to sign or not sign what Congress lays on his desk for consideration.

Yes, write in candidate. How about Mickey Mouse? He's less verbal, and about as qualified as either candidate. Both sides bother me greatly and I fear the more Trump bashes and runs his mouth about issues (which may or may not need addressed, but in a better and more polite manner) is what is going to automatically elect Hillary. The biggest thing is some world leaders are already expressing their concern of Trump's leadership. We, the US can't afford to loose alies and stand alone agains the world. We need all the respect we can have.

Well, you opinion is shared by many citizens. I hear -almost daily- in the local news that many voters will opt for a Write in Candidate; people are completely disappointed with both candidates; one is a liar and the other lacks the manners a President should have.
Of course...and as you said...Trump's doing may be a trick to help to get Hillary elected. similar to what Ross Perot did (Bill Clinton's 2nd. term).
