Deer in the garden in the summer, in the headlights in the fall. Any good way to divert their interst? A big dog is abbut all I can think of. It's a toss up as to who gets to the garden first, the racoons or deer. Friend has already put wire cages around the cushaws because last year for the first time, the deer decided to eat chunks out of them. Gave up on growing cantalope and sweet potatoes because the same problem. Chomp all night on the sweet potato vines. Saw one garden with stakes and walmart bags tied to them all through the garden. Wonder if that works?

I smell deer steak for dinner.

Is it too early to fill the freezer? Guess a 12 foot fence might help.
I have seen what raccoons leave behind raiding ripen sweet corn....NOTHING but shucks!

Sorry this happened to you, Kane.

Sankie, yes, dogs would most likely help if they are outdoor canines.
Growing up on a farm, all Dad's hunting dogs kept the rabbits, deer, and 'coons away.

Y'all have yourself a good day.

When growing up it was fight for every bite you had to eat so the deer, racoons, and garden pest were doomed. Heard one guy say yesterday that he was from a large family and everytime one was born it meant one less biscuit for him.

At times this was so true. For years, a once a month trip to buy flour and a fifty lb can of lard for biscuits if you didn't have hogs to make your own lard.
Salt, baking soda, sugar and tea leaves, and vanilla was a grocery list.
We raised everything we ate...canning foods for the winter, taking our shelled corn to be emailed, picking black berries and wild plums for jams or pies. Yard chickens for eggs and Sunday dinner, cows to milk for butter and drinking. Never much time for idle hands. Life was hard but we survived.

Not at all certain I could survive all those chores again. Most our age couldn't.
The younger generations would starve.

when I made the new big garden, fenced it immediately. I had the garden at the farm house. I used to plant tomatos in pits so the watering stayed close to soak in the sand. during one day, I planted them all. Staggered order. the next day I went out. And The deer had cut through like usual in the dark. There were the tell tale tracks. The deer came through as usual and!! Fell into a pit. Staggered out of it and into a second one. Stopped..WTH and WHERE am I supposed to walk. Then carefully walked around and through. Damn human booby traps me! Argh. A second items...Planted sweet corn in rows. Deer track carefully follows the path through the tomatos. Know where to step now! And reaches the ends of the rows of corn. I can picture the fight with self. And each row had the LAST stalk with one ear of corn with one half carefully bit off. Nothing else ever touched. I guess the deer stood there..No..not mine. But..so good. No..sigh.. Well...if I eat JUST a half off each last one..she wont shoot me maybe. I got along with deer.

Always loved gardening and fresh vegetables. Daddy did the plowing and made the rows. He would let me drop in the seeds and he covered with dirt. After that it was all on Mother and the children to do the rest. Some hard days keeping the grass out, picking, shelling, snapping green beans..corn, potatoes and big pirple hull pea patches. We would use every jar on the place for canning...then finally the parents bought a freezers and that was easier. Mom still canned the green beans though.
WE never saw a deer back in those days. Now the woods have grown up and the deer are plentiful.
My brother, his son in laws and two grandsons have deer stands and hunt on the 44 acres.

Orz, it was nice of them to at least leave you half of a cob of corn.
Know it is discouraging to have this happen. Gardening involves a lot of hard work.

Having an early dinner so I can watch the debate. Certain it will be well guarded being the first one.
Perhaps it will be somewhat interesting...

Life is an ECHO
What you send out COMES BACK
What you SOW you REAP
What you GIVE you GET
What you SEE in others EXISTS in you
Remember that LIFE is an ECHO
....so always give GOODNESS.

A tidbit found earlier this morning and liked.
Thought I would echo it here.

What SPRING chores? You mean the ones left over from LAST year?
I had to laugh picturing that poor deer fighting with self trying to rationalize eating half of two ears. Just as easy to have demolished the whole row!

I am ready to start subtracting a year per birthday.

MC....sounds as if you did complete
some of the spring chores. Regretfully, many of my chores got put off until most likely next year. Oh well, the AC is cooling, the eyes can see, a roof over my head and food in the house.

Thanks for dropping by everyone. Love hearing and seeing what y'all are up to these days....

Don't make me wish for winter.

Monday...a new week and a new day. Time to rise and shine and pray for best.

In the mean time, another cup of coffee is calling my name.
Plenty in the pot...

Monday and it was shot to h... yesterday before it even got here. Friend called and leg swelled badly from knee down. Had not seen a doctor and symptoms of blood clot. I took her to the emergency room and it took 7 hours to get her back out of there. Didn't get home until almost midnight, no dinner, nothing open by that time unless you wanted to venture into the wrong part of town (No thank you). Couldn't leave the parking lot to go get something earlier because "big hospital", small parking area. No vending machine for even a high priced soda and chips.

Good news, no blood clot but why all the swelling. She was refered back to her primary care doctor for further test. ???

So slept in this morning and plans shot for the day, but breathe deep, count to 10 and take it as it comes.

Fish...feel for you! How do "they" word it? ALL good things must come to an end.

Sankie...know how that is with 7 hours and no answers. You are earning your wings helping your friends.
Hope your friend is feeling better soon. Been there and done that and a simple prescription from my doctor cured it. On the prescription pad was written....Drink 8 to 12 glasses of water per day. A quart by noon, a quart by 6 PM and a couple of glasses before bed time.
Thought I was drinking plenty of fluid with my coffee, soda and sweet tea.
all that was doing was dehydrating me. He was right! I have kept up that practice and no swelling problems to this day.

Gayle...keep those prayers going for me since you are at loss on what to say.
That should keep you busy probably until noon tomorrow.
OH!!! Add one for those doctors too. I am not real pleasant fasting and without my morning coffee.

A long day! Made it through all the steps today. The most painful part was the port stuck in my upper hand.
The needle and guide wire was totally deaden and I only felt the one tiny stick of the numbing injection. Dreaded this and it was not difficult at all.
The surgery went well and tomorrow at 3:30 PM the doctor at the Breasted Clinic will have the results of the lump and surrounding tissue. This report needs to have a "good report" in our prayers tonight.

Still a bit groggy from the drugs pumped into me today. Praying for a good report tomorrow!
These have been a stressful few weeks. Thanks for the friendship and prayers you have showered upon me.
Hugs to all!

Thank you for the prayers and good wishes. I am appreciative for your kind deeds.
Consider it a warm up my friends. Regretfully, the tumor is cancer. Yesterday the surgeon laid several options and recommendations on the table. Next week when I have the stitches removed he will discuss it further. I am still in a zombie numb shocked state of mind. I have all these emotions going wild right now and have to get my head wrapped around it to think clearly. So much is involved and it is long and drawn out.

Please continue to remember me in your prayers and send me some doses of humor.
If laughter is truly the best medicine....I need an over dose.

Thanks again y'all.
You're great troopers for boosting my moral.

Gayle...love the good news and yes...thus far I have made it through two bouts of the big C in the lungs. Once in 1997 and the small tumor wedge last year. Cut it out and that ended it. This seems more complicated...now lymph nodes must be checked and he wants to do a partial, radiation and chemo.::surprised: I am like why wasn't more taken??? The tissue was clean around it and it is tiny??? Was told the size was not the big factor...it is stage 2 on the smallest side and stage 3 on the the large side of side. he is a gruff ol'cuss.
Said he would take care of his part of the removal and then turn me over to the onocologist. Whow! DO I NT HAVE A SAY????
Well...I am calling Doctr Tulli, the cancer specialist to discuss this first before I let him do a partial...which then Gayle you could call me "Half Pint" Poor azzed joke is better than crying!

She laughed at the picture. Had shown her earlier.

Just had the oncologist call and working me in at 1:00 PM. Yeah! This makes me feel better before I allow anything else to be done. I feel bad with possible reoccurances and at my age cannot believe it would be wise to piece meal things. Think it may be safer to remove it totally. It will help having her opinions.

Well, the oncologist is saying the lymph nodes will now have to be tested to see if any cells are present there. She is in full approval of the advice from the surgeon at the breast clinic. In four weeks go back in and remove surrounding tissue, check the lymph nodes and have radiation for six weeks and wipe any cells out. If lymph nodes show different things then follow up chemo may the given. A full mastectomy is extremely invasive and more danger than the partial considering the small size and no evidence of new nodulars. It is all confusing to this brain tired woman. I trust Dr Tilli. She assures me I am going to be okay...lol... She has pulled a check of a lot of bad cases through these hard times so gotta hang in there.

Thank you all for the caring and sharing your kind words and prayers.

Hoping and praying for the best for you. Will your daughter be there with you all the way through this? It's not a good time to face this all alone, I'm sure. Glad she's there for you as are our prayers and best wishes.

4 weeks? I never understood why they make us wait so long. I do hope it goes well and that it can all be taken care of at one time and be over with.
prayers and thoughts continue to be with you Shar.

Wow... Miss Sharon, I am so sorry to hear the news you got. It's not fair that you keep getting tested by this disease. Praising The Lord that He made you strong enough to keep meeting these challenges head on and fighting them back down. My Mom and my mother in law both had breast cancer, fought it down, and lived well over 20 years in good health after the fight. You have the fight, the kickazz attitude, the love and support of family and friends, and the prayers of all of us who care about you. Old Bubba is praying for good results and for God's Grace to help you through this challenge. We all love you Sweetpea. Keep on fighting!!!
