Thats the bird. In the 1900s tons were slaughtered for their fluffy feathers for womens hats. They finally put a ban on them.
Nothing like havoc at work to drive one insane. I really am not surprised at work place killings. Guys used to mess with a guy where husband worked all the time. And my husband warned them..he was mental due to nerve illness. Said one day the guy would come in and shoot a bunch of them. Back off idiots!
I had a DJ get in my face once over a commercial I had written. He was always blowing up and had every gal in the building in tears one time or another. Used to go it and yell at the boss. I was amazed boss didnt blow up back. Asked him once. Boss said if yelling at me, not at other workers. Anyway..we got into it. He came in my office..b*tched, walked out and then came back. This was at the time that I was dealing with husbands MS. DJ was leaning over my desk waiting for me to cry..he finally stuck his finger in my face yelling. THAT IS IT! I half rose out of my chair and said if you ever stick you finger in my face again..I will break it off and stick it up your a**! The expression on his face was priceless. He paddled backwards and almost ran out of my office and slammed MY door behind him. lol. I sat there thinking oh that is impressive. I heard him leave the building and drive away. Finally one of the office gals came back..are you OK. I said yes. She said she had wanted to come back but other gal said leave it..she can handle it.The DJ never said one word to me again the whole time before he got fired finally.
Lesson one..dont piss off someone who is dealing with crap and JUST looking for a target.

we have egrets all over the place here, they have long beaks to get bugs out of ground to eat... fascinating reading about birds an why they have different type beaks.. all because of what they eat.

usually we have whats called "snowy white egrets" here. They flock together 6 or more driving the dogs nuts!

Clean bill of health today, been in a panic over a few issues but its NOT cancer. I just stared at Dr when he told me... cus was for sure it was. Someones looking out for me

~ This might sound terrible but I'm glad my kids were raised in the day you put together costumes and went door to door. I liked the simplicity of it, have a few folks over, had a big pot of chili and some cornbread and we lived where we didn't have the worries that parents do now. We would invite people that lived out in the country to our neighborhood to go trick or treating. Simple but good and the kids had a ball.

Sheza, Yes the time when costumes were thrown together from home were the best. My grandson and I had a talk a couple weeks ago. His Dad, him, and myself were back on the farm splitting wood. Grandson decided he was hungry and his Dad told him to walk the fence line and it would take him straight to the house. Grandson had no intention of getting out of our sight. His father told him that when he was 10 years old he would get the BB gun and dog and spend a lot of time back there. Grandson looked shocked and I said "Yes, then you could trust a kid out of your sight for awhile because there weren't as much mean stuff going on". Grandson asked why then vs. now and I answered with pointing at a tree. I said "if someone messed over a kid then the Dad's would get together and probably hang the SOB from that tree. And...now they have names for all the meaness and society has gotten soft about it. It's called bi-polar, ADD, and all the fancy diagnosis when it's mostly meaness and lack of a conscious".

~ Sankie .... it is a shame kids can't go and explore like we did as a young child. I could not imagine turning my 7 year old lose in a back wooded area and fields with creeks. I would also ride my bicycle to the pool alone and go swimming or up to the Taco hut and get chicken rolls. I was just a little kid and went everywhere. At one point, I did always have a German Shepard with me and no lease law back then, no one would approach me to do harm that's for sure. If I went into a store or someone's home he would wait on me.

~ I'm glad there is still a farm in the family so when the kids go to visit they get a taste of that life.

Will the younger generation even know the feeling of personal freedom? That is one huge loss.

I'm not full of meaness but do have some severe and deep feelings about those who do nothing except to get from the bed with bad intentions towards others. Yesterday morning a van with three low life's camped out beside a Gulf Service Station and tried to grab a ladies purse as she exited the store. A couple hours later, the police paid them a visit and guy hid in the bedroom. The second guy let the police in the apartment, claimed there was noone there except himself and NO GUNS in the house. Police proceeded to search the apartment and ended being shot in the head. Was still alive last night, but probably not intact for the duration of his life.

When it comes to that sort of thing I say "burn them out". Set the entire street on fire because it's an area you don't want to drive through, and it's one after the other that lives to mess over people. Probably, had just visited the health department to exchange their needles and that boils my blood that our state even enacted such as that. Claim it's better to assist them with new needles and get them help instead of putting their foot in their hindends and doing something about getting it stopped. I know it's a bad thought and every life is sacred but if the SOB wants to over dose, then let him go at it.

Sorry, I just got carried away. It boils my blood to think those who have worked hard, lived by the rules, and are now getting to the age where help is needed because of extreme medical expenses and diabetics can't even get help with their test strips but druggies can get new needles at the health department. ??? No wonder this world is like it is.

Gloomy cloudy day. Laziness hath taken me back to bed.
Backed out on my shopping day and decided to rest and prepare for another busy week ahead. God only knows what this team of doctors are planning next. We are having a very difficult time getting the lymphedema out of the breast. Seems I am a rare case of it. Most lymphedema cases is it swelling the arm and hand on the affected side the lymph nodes are removed. My appointment is set next Wednesday with the radiation doctor so I do not know if radiation can start on a Dolly sized one.
Spoo, I am a bit lopsided in more ways than one.

I am about ready to throw my hands up and do nothing more about this Phase 1 tumor that has been removed and all surrounding tissue and lymph nodes were cancer free. The odds are 35% of a reinsurance if I do not have radiation...verses 7% chance if I will go through it. Decisions are tough but radiation will prevent me from having chemo for five years.

Wanted to do a quick update since my right arm should not me over used typing.

The worst part of illness is every doctor has one...you know what...but they mistake it for an opinion. And the more you study on it the more confused you get. And then down the road the treatment thought best was decided to not matter. I just read something in Time about asking what happens if I wait and see.
Fall came back. But with El Nino, getting things off the list of to do before I die. Or after.

*lol* funny about the shirt. When I put our name on the waiting list to eat then ask for the name and I said "Packers" .... but they didn't call the name out over a loud speaker as I was hoping they would do. I thought that would have been fun to call out in the Panthers town. *LOL*

** UPDATE on Gayle in her Gossip thread.

MC, Connie and Back4 ......... yep I highly recommend meeting up with some of us folks here on DH, they have been some good times!!

Continuing rain ......... dang, this is a lot of rain but no where near the flood concerns a little over a month ago but it is causing some issues due to the rivers had not fully recovered from the floods yet.

Monday and changes went in over the weekend so they are anticipating a hectic day, they even planned to being in breakfast ahead of time.

Have a great day and don't wait till Thanksgiving week to be thinking about what you are thankful for.

I saw this on an outdoor cooking TV show over the weekend.

Dig a small pit, line with heavy reynolds wrap. Use a stake about 20 inches long and drive in the ground in center of pit. Wrap stake with aluminum foil as well. Put a turkey on the stake (legs down) with only salt and pepper for seasoning. Cap a 15 gallon metal garbage can over the pit and fill the bottom of the can with charcoal, then put charcoal all around the base of the can. Have the charcoal burning when putting on and around the can. Cook for 90 minutes, then check the bird to be sure temperature inside the breast is 165 degrees. Then gather around and eat.

The bird came out of the cooker so brown and juicy and all the mess was outside while the oven was free for other baking. Looked so good. They used a 14 pound turkey.

Was a feel good day.
couple weeks ago we decided to adopt a needy family and donate a Thanksgiving meal. We all came up with food ideas to put in a basket to be delivered. The list is up and everyone is donating 3- 5 items.. I was quite impressed as some of these people are selfish an tight wads. All non perishible foods an Walmart donated the turkey
I believe the boss may know who the family is but we dont and thats OK, was just a nice feeling to give and help others.

We are going to do the same at Christmas. I said I want to have a tree with tags, each tag with either say "boy" or "girl". You then buy a gift for whatever gender you get, nothing over $10. Wrap it and bring to Toys for Tots or distribute to needy families.. also the tree gets donated to a local family. Will see how that goes as time gets closer.
Told boss (since he is also a local cop) that I want to ride in the police car to help deliver.. course hes a goof an wanted to know if Id wear an elf costume

Told him Id be Mrs Claus with my fat self if he dressed up as Santa
can you picture it? a police car riding through the city with Santa and Mrs. Claus in it?

Just checking in for a bit here...

Heading out for a Christmas Show this evening at the Carolina Opry...

It was very nice meeting Teri...and No...I did not forget any purchases...I didn't have time to buy anything..For Teri and I chatted the whole time together..we finally arrived in Myrtle Beach late Sunday evening after a cold loss in Charlotte...

Monday was a rainy day..but the sun was shining nice today...It's so nice to be near the ocean again...

I'll post some pics when I get back home..

Again, Teri thanks for driving up to meet..it truly felt like we've known each other for years...I loved your bubbly personality and of course that southern accent...

Later...

Jo ... yep I've been thinking about ya'll and all this rain. I saw the sun FINALLY shine bright today and I was hoping you were also seeing it. Soak up what sun you can get. Should we be able to meet up again maybe we can make plans abd go out and do something and I'll stay overnight.

Not sure what I'm doing for Thanksgiving. I think I'm headed to Atlanta my mother-in-love has not been doing well and she will be there for a week. I'll be able to go see her.

I'll wait and see.

Maybe helped that I b*tched the cost was HALF of my field rent for the YEAR! Got supplies and did barn chores in the dark. Well...lights helped.

hummm ........... mornin' .......... not been around much on DH .... just seems I've been busy here or there piddlin' around.

~ Starting to get geared up for the holidays not that I do alot .... it's more gearing up emotionally. I'm not where I thought I would be this time of this year. I think I'm on plan "F". Not sure when I'll see the kids during the Holidays.

~ Anyway ....... temp says low of 37* and it looks like the window is frosted over on the truck. Two seasoned co-workers had their baby last week so we'll be picking up the slack that comes with them being out. I work with a nose bleed so I think from this point forward my day should be looking up.

~ I did have a good weekend. Had a function at church on Saturday evening and it was really nice kind of made me wish we had services on Saturday nights. We are finally to the point of building our own church building it was a type of information event.

~ The weather was absolutely gorgeous yesterday and I got outside and did a few things.

A trip to the ocean would be refreshing right now. Unfortunately, the chain of islands keeps the waves away from our beaches. I love hearing the sound of the waves with the view.

Weather was temp down , rain heading in. So scan breakfast coffee or anything..out as soon as up. Rooted Ruzz out and we moved the portable washer and 110 dryer to garage. Moved old doors down dogtrot. Then sent him to get battery out of his van ..need to move back by semi for winter. I attacked the cottage and leaned the ladder to bend roof metal over against side and nail. Bother ends done. Attacked pole barn metal with shears and chisel and hammer to bend flat for edging. And rain. Hmm..work inside it...have to get saw...aw nuts. Give up for the day. Now sitting and hurting. Lesson..dont stop!

My cold weather projects this year is a doll hospital. Have collected all summer and plan to do some amputations and transplants. Found one the other day where the head is the composition material (1940's and 1950's) but was one of the later models with the rubber legs and arms. That stuff became sticky and cracked making them impossible to play with so most were thrown away. I will replace the arms and legs with parts from other dolls and put composition limbs back on it, making it whole again. I enjoy old toys and if I'd known then what the prices would be today it would pay more than interest on any CD the bank offers.

~ Sankie ... That's pretty cool. I rarely hear of Doll Hospitals anymore. I remember as a little girl hearing of them. I actually have a doll that needs to be fixed it's only about 30 years old. Belongs to my daughter. What do you do with them once you fix them?

~ Happy Thursday folks ~

~ Oh for Christmas I put in vacation between Christmas and New Years and got it !!! Will see both kids and gchildren in the Atlanta area during that time.

I love old toys so after putting one through the hospital I usually keep it (at least for awhile). There is a guy who is head of the flooring dept. at a builders supply that buys dolls for his wife. She collects them and he's always on the prowl for birthdays, etc. so when I have one I'm ready to let go I will drop it by to let him look at it. He has bought at least 10 from me.

Sheza, what is the problem with the doll you have?

~ Sankie … the plastic leg has come loose from the cloth body. I’m sure I could fix it but I think I would need one of those curved needles. She is beautiful she would freak people out because she looks life like, people would see my daughter carrying her and think she was about to drop a real baby.

~ Fishy … that’s funny about your boss. At least he is the age to know the song. I work with so many young folks they wouldn’t have a clue. The other day that the kids got so tickled when the topic came up that phone numbers use to have letters in them.

~ BOOM …. The windows just rattled and the ground shook. I live close to the army base and they have been doing artillery. Last night my neighbor text me around 11:00 last night waking me asking if I was ok, she felt the bump and didn’t know what was going on. When I hear it and feel it, it always brings on prayer for our military and families. A dose of my morning reality to go along with my coffee.

~ I’m working the Thanksgiving holiday and have no other plans. Friday my co-workers said they would bring in left overs for us all to eat I said I would bring a dessert if they did. I took a poll of options and will get the stuff and make it Thursday after I get off of work. Have not yet decided what to make.

~ Not sure what all I plan on doing today. It's a sunny crisp 45*. Just had my first cup of coffee and I think I'll go start the wash. Actually I am considering doing some shopping for Christmas. We do a Secret Santa gift exchange at work and the name I drew will be easy and fun. I like when people actually tell you what they want. (We were to write down 3 suggestions.)

~ I hope all have a great weekend!!

Sheza, sounds like a fun Christmas at work. I liked the gag gifts where it is for noone in particular, just go to the tree and pick a gift. Then if you don't want it, exchange it with someone else (actually take theirs and give them what you just unwrapped). Laughing with the memory because one year this girl came to work and shortly after getting to her desk she reached down and pulled a pair of panties from her pant leg that had gotten stuck in there in the drying cycle. Then at Christmas we did the gag gifts. One guy bought a pair of panties and was the prettiest gift under the tree. Guess which gift this girl chose. That haunted her for the remainder of her career.

Yes, you probably do need a curved needle to repair the doll's leg. However, a very tiny and short needle works in hard to reach places. I have a pack that were my grandmothers quilting needles and they work some magic on many projects.

Think boss is 55, just young enough that I can still pull the wool over his eyes on a few things but old enough to catch of few of the things I say and do... but hes the one that told me Im the queen of the place and have a reserved seat at the head of the conference table
I can be talking and he starts talking and I tell him he needs to hush cus it was my turn.. others eyes grow wide cus he IS the boss after all, me? pffft. Im the queen, wait your turn to speak.. he just laughs.. he truly is a good egg.

cooler day today, temps will be in 50s over night with 70s daytime for most of the week, SO happy about that but then Thanksgiving day will be 80s again.. stupid weather!
guess as long as its not humid its ok ... you know.. the hair thing and all

~ yes......... my back yard is all cleaned up, makes me a happy camper. That overtime pay comes in handy.

~ I read .... this morning what's going on at the base.

FORT JACKSON, S.C. (AP) - The Army is warning residents near Fort Jackson that they will be hearing loud thumps in the night.

Army spokeswoman Kara Motosicky says members of the South Carolina Army National Guard are going to train with 155mm howitzers Friday night. The training is continuing through the day and into the evening on Saturday.

The exercises mean loud explosions should be heard near the Guard's base in the area known as Camp McCrady.

Motosicky says the Guard makes every effort to minimize noise. However, if the wind shifts direction or cloud cover reflects the sound back to the ground, the noises may seem quite loud.

There is no danger to members of the public located outside the installation.

*******

I had to look up what a 155mm Howitzer is ... they are still going at it.

We have military jets, cargo an those stealth bomber (not sure of appropriate names) flying from McDill AFB over head a lot. Those cargo ones are HUGE! they usually are carrying jeeps an other military needs for over seas. Then there are those BIG a** green helicopters that I have no clue what they carry, yet fascinating to see them able to stay airborne being SO huge!

One sense makes me worry another sense makes me feel safe, if that makes any sense

Wish all would just stop and everyone just get along, you take care of your people, we take care of ours, youre no better than us an we are no better than you.
