What were the *FOUR* main reasons Jesus came to earth:

{**1**} To bring all people a New Covenant of Love and Grace which replaces the OT Law.

{**2**} The sacrifice of Jesus for the forgiveness of all sins to replace the OT sacrifice of thousands of animals for the forgiveness of sins.

{**3**} The Father draws and enables sinners to receive the free gift of faith in the sacrifice of Jesus for their sins. This free gift of faith is freely accepted by those the Father chooses since the Father draws and enables them to accept this free gift of faith; and to be born again or born from above through the inspired Word of God.

{**4**} God's Word promises countless eternal rewards for God's chosen saints for obeying about 400 New Testament commands of love.

{**1**} To bring a New Covenant of Love and Grace which replaces the OT Law:

Galatians 3:23-25: "Before faith came, we were held prisoners by the law, locked up until faith should be revealed. So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith. Now that faith has come, *WE* ARE NO LONGER UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF THE LAW!!"

*WE* ARE NO LONGER UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF THE LAW!!

Galatians 2:14-16,20,21; 3:2,5,10-13;23-25: Paul said, When I saw that they were not acting in line with the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter in front of them all, "You are a Jew, yet you live like a Gentile and not like a Jew. How is it, then that you force Gentiles to follow Jewish customs? We who are Jews by birth and not 'Gentile sinners' know that a man is NOT justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified.!"

Galatians 2:20,21: The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. I do not set aside the the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!"

Galatians 3:10-13: "All who rely on observing the law are under a curse, for it is written "Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law." Clearly no one is justified before God by the law, because, "The righteous will live by faith." The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, "The man who does these things will live by them." Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us!

Hebrews 7:18,19: The former regulation is SET ASIDE because it was weak and useless; for the law made nothing perfect, and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God.!

Hebrews 8:8,9,13: "The time is coming." says the Lord, "when I will make a New Covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah".... By calling this Covenant "NEW", He has made the first one OBSOLETE; and what is OBSOLETE and aging will soon disappear."

Hebrews 8:6: But the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which He is Mediator is SUPERIOR TO THE OLD ONE, and it is founded on better promises.

Colossians 2:16,17: Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you **EAT** or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a *SHADOW* of the things that were to come, the reality, however, is found in Christ!!!

All of the OT Sabbath laws have been eliminated. Both Jesus and His Father have declared all foods are now clean. All of the OT sacrificial and temple laws have been eliminated. All of the stoning to death laws for breaking the law have been eliminated. All of the laws concerning an eye for an eye and making oaths have been eliminated. Circumcision laws have been eliminated. Loving one another as Jesus loved us has replaced loving one another as you love yourself.

Their about 400 NT laws to be obeyed with *LOVE* in the hope of countless eternal rewards for faithful and loving service has replaced the 613 OT laws.

WHAT WERE THE **FOUR** MAIN REASONS JESUS CAME TO EARTH?? {CONTINUED]

{**2**} The sacrifice of Jesus for the forgiveness of all sins to replace the OT sacrifice of thousands of animals for the forgiveness of sins.

Louie and the Roman Catholic Church says:

You say that Christ did away with sacrifice and oblation, but he did not. Christ himself is a sacrifice, the Pascal lamb of the new covenant, whose body and blood is offered up on Catholic altars around the world in reparation for the sins of men, it is the sacrifice of Calvary translated through time to the Catholic altar. Christ himself is a sacrifice, a pure and holy sacrifice and oblation. It was not Christ who did away with the animal and cereal offerings of the Jews, it was Peter who did that for Christians under the authority that Christ gave him:

But what does God's Word say??

Acts 15:20,29 and Acts 21:25 commands NT believers to abstain from drinking blood!

Hebrews 7:27: Unlike the other high priests, He {Jesus} does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people. HE SACRIFICED FOR THEIR SINS *ONCE FOR ALL* WHEN HE OFFERED HIMSELF!!

Hebrews 9:15,26b-28: Christ is the mediator of a NEW COVENANT so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance--now that He has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant...But now He has APPEARED ONCE FOR ALL at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the **SACRIFICE** of Himself... so Christ was **SACRIFICED ONCE** TO TAKE AWAY THE SINS OF MANY PEOPLE, and He will *APPEAR* a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for Him.

Hebrews 10:10: “We have been made holy through the **SACRIFICE** of the body of Jesus **ONCE FOR ALL**!!”

Hebrews 10:11,12,14,17,18: Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can **NEVER** take away sins! But when this **PRIEST** {Jesus} had offered *ONE SACRIFICE* for sins, He sat down at the right hand of God...By *ONE SACRICE* He has made perfect forever those who are being made holy...God says, "Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more." And where these have been forgiven, THERE IS NO LONGER ANY *SACRIFICE* FOR SINS !!

Isaiah 53:5,6: He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all!!{Including Mary}

Ephesians 1:3-8: Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For **HE CHOSE US** in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love **HE PREDESTINED US** to be adopted as His sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will--to the praise of his glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the One He loves. In Him we have **REDEMPTIOIN THROUGH HIS BLOOD**, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace that He lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding!

John 3:3: Jesus declares, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the Kingdom of God unless his is **BORN AGAIN**!"John 1:12,13: He gave the right to become children of God--children born not of human descent, **NOR OF A HUMAN DECISION**, or a husband's will, but **BORN OF GOD**!!

John 6:28,29: Then they asked Jesus, "What must we do to do the works God requires?" Jesus answered, "The **WORK OF GOD** is this: to believe in the One He has sent!"

John 6:37,39,44,65: Jesus says, "All that the Father gives to Me **WILL** come to Me, and whoever comes to Me I will **NEVER** drive away...And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that I shall lose **NONE** of all He has given Me, but raise them up at the Last Day....No one can come to Me **UNLESS** the Father who sent Me draws him and I will raise him up at the Last Day!...No one can come to Me **UNLESS** the Father has enabled them!"

John 17:1,2: Jesus prayed, "Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. For you granted Him authority over all people that He might give eternal life to all those **YOU HAVE GIVEN HIM**!"

John 17:9,24: Jesus prayed, "I pray for them, I am not praying for the world, but for **THOSE YOU HAVE GIVEN ME**!"...."Father, I want **THOSE YOU HAVE GIVEN ME** to be with Me where I am!!"

Romans 9:10-18: Rebekah's children had one and the same father, our father Isaac. Yet, before the twins were born or had done anything good or bad--in order that God's purpose on election might stand: not by works but by Him who calls--she was told, "The older will serve the younger." Just as it is written: "Jacob I loved but Esau I hated."{Mal 1:2,3} What shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all! For He says to Moses [In Exodus 33:19} "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion." It does not, therefore, depend on man's desire and effort, but on God's mercy. For the Scripture says to Pharoah {In Exodus 9:16} "I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth." Therefore, God has mercy on whom He wants to have mercy, and He hardens whom He wants to harden!

Ephesians 2:4-10: But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages He might show the incomparable riches of His grace, expressed in His kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this is not from yourselves, it is the **GIFT** of God--**NOT BY WORKS**, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do!

WHAT ARE THE **FOUR** MAIN REASONS JESUS CAME TO EARTH?? {CONTINUED}

{**4**} God's Word promises countless eternal rewards for God's chosen saints for obeying about 400 New Testament commands of love.

SALVATION IS 100% FREE BUT HEAVENLY REWARDS ARE 100% EARNED !!!

Hebrews 11:1,6: Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see....And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He **REWARDS those who earnestly seek Him!!

Ephesians 6:8: Serve wholeheartedly , as if you were serving the Lord, not men, because you know that the Lord will **REWARD everyone for what ever good he does! Revelation 22:12 Jesus says, “Behold I am coming soon! My **REWARD is with Me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done!”

Matthew 16:27: Jesus says, “The Son of Man is going to come in His Father's glory with His angels and THEN He will **REWARD each person according to what he has done!”

2 Corinthians 5:9,10: We make it our goal to please Him... for we must all appear before the Judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.
1 Corinthians 3:13-15: His work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work. If what he has built survives , he will receive his **REWARD. If it is burned up he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.

Colossians 3:23-25: Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a **REWARD. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for his wrong, and there is no favoritism.

Win Heavenly CROWNS:

I Corinthians 9:24-27: Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes in to strict training. They do it to get a **CROWN that will not last; but we do it to get a **CROWNTHAT WILLL LAST FOREVER! There fore I do not run like a man running aimless; I do not fight like a man beating the air. No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize!

2 John 1:8: Watch out that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you may be **REWARDED fully!. Revelation 3:11: Jesus says, “I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your **CROWN!”

2 Timothy 4:7,8: I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the **CROWN of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing!

The **CROWN of Life for those who persevere under trials and persecution:

James 1:12: Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the **CROWN OF LIFE that God has promised to those who love Him!

Revelation 2:10 Jesus says, “Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer... Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the **CROWN OF LIFE!”

Matthew 5:11,12: Jesus says, “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your **REWARD in heaven!”

Hebrews 10:32-36: Remember those earlier days after you had received the Light, when you stood your ground in a great contest in the face of suffering. Sometimes you were publically exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated. You sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions. So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly **REWARDED. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you receive what He has promised!

The CROWN OF GLORY to preachers and teachers:

1 Peter 5:-4: Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, serving as overseers—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be, not greedy for money, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the **CROWN OF GLORY that will NEVER fade away!

1 Corinthians 3:6-9: I planted the seed, Apollos watered it but God made it grow. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be **REWARDED according to his own labor. For we are God's fellow workers!
Daniel 12:3: Those who are wise {or impart wisdom-NIV} will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever!

REWARDS for doing good works secretly without earthly rewards:

Matthew 6:3,4: Jesus says, “When you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret will **REWARD you!”

Matthew 6:6: Jesus says, When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will **REWARD you!”

Matthew 6:17,18: When you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will **REWARD you!”

Matthew 6:19-21: Jesus says, Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth aand rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves Treasures in Heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your Treasure is, there your heart will be also!”

Luke 6:35: Love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your **REWARD will be GREAT!”

How to receive a **RICH WELCOME in Heaven!!

2 Peter 1:5-11: For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith {a 100% free gift} goodness; and to goodness, knowledge, and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, LOVE. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.....Therefore, my brother, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do all these things, you will receive a **RICH WELCOME into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ !!

Revelation 2:17 Jesus says, “To him who overcomes I will give a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it!” Revelation 3:21: Jesus says, “To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with Me on My throne, just as I overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne!!”

Prop: You continue to carpet bomb my thread and other people's threads. Please refrain from doing that.

Prop wrote: What were the *FOUR* main reasons Jesus came to earth:

Prop: Yahweh's Laws/Torah and Commandments are still in full force just like they were in the Old Testament. Nothing has changed except that it is no longer necessary to have animals sacrifices. Lawless Paul taught faith and grace only but no where in the Bible did Moses, the Prophets, Yeshua or the true 12 Apostles teach such a heathen doctrine. It appears that you have fallen for the "spouter of lies" Paul and have turned your back on the true and Blessed Patriarchs of the Bible. We cannot have a little warm and fuzzy feeling about Yahweh and get to Heaven with that half baked heathen silly story. Yeshua plainly said He did not come to do away with one jot or tittle of Yahweh's laws/Torah and Commandments. Some of those Laws were for women only, some for men only, some for Priests only. It is about time you start figuring the truth of the Bible out before it is too late. You have straddled the fence long enough. It is time you are making a decision that you are going to follow Yahweh's laws and Commandments and stop your complaining. If you think Yahweh will feel sorry for you and squeeze you into Paradise then you are simply dreaming.

Low: I agree with you that Prop is a very pestersome person the way he behaves and shows a lack of respect for others. It seems to me that he is in love with and worships Paul instead of worshiping Yahweh. I don't have anyone blocked and I don't like blocking people but the way Prop is behaving I am seriously thinking about blocking him.

Pro-life leaders expressed shock after Pope Francis praised the "Margaret Sanger" of Italian politics.

In an interview early in February the Pope called former Italian Foreign Minister Emma Bonino one of the nation's "forgotten greats." Bonino for decades has been known as Italy's most outspoken abortion-rights activist.

The Pope's remarks surprised church traditionalists.

"How can the Pope praise a woman that is best known in Italy for practicing illegal abortion and promoting abortion?" said Msgr. Ignacio Barreiro, who was until last year the head of the Rome office of Human Life International, reports the pro-life website LifeSiteNews.

Bonino, a leading member of the Radical Party and former European commissioner, is well known for having an abortion at the age of 27 and then working with the Information Centre on Sterilization and Abortion, which was responsible for 10,000 abortions, notes LifeSiteNews.

She entered politics after being acquitted on charges of performing illegal abortions, the site says, and there are photos of her performing abortions using a homemade device operated by a bicycle pump.

Prop: Postings like what you posted above is why I find it more than difficult to block you. I agree with you whole heartedly that abortion is an evil, heathen and despicable sin against young children that have no means of protecting themselves and such inhumane practice goes totally against the teachings of Yahweh. Mothers and fathers are supposed to protect their precious children but when they fail at that noble task then the rest of society should step up to the plate and protect such blessed children with laws that keeps the evil hand of the devil far from them.

How can he be a "lousy" pope if as you claim he is morally and spiritually infallible on par with Almighty God Himself?

I don't claim he is morally and spiritually on a par with God. He is infallible when he teaches doctrine, but that is all. Pope Francis, now Pope for 3 years, has made no infallible statements. Pope Benedict XVI made none, John Paul II only one, Paul VI only one, John XXIII none, and Pius XII only one. Making infallible statements is not something the Pope does every day.

How do you know a infallible doctrine from a fallible one, Ludlow? Especially, when dozens of Popes taught their adherents to torture and burn thousands upon thousands of people to death at the stake for over 500 years calling them witches and heretics?

It's an infallible statement if the subject is faith or morals, not political (like the Crusades), scientific ( like what happened to Galileo), liturgical, or Church discipline matters (like the Inquisition), and if the Pope intends to bind the whole Church to the teaching. The Pope cannot introduce new doctrine by this method---only reiterate doctrines that have always been taught.

In 1950 Pope Pius XII defined the doctrine of Mary's assumption into Heaven, something that had always been believed in the Church. In 1968, Pope Paul VI said contraception was immoral, something that had always been believed in the Church. In 1994, Pope John Paul II taught that women could not be ordained priests, something always believed and practiced in the Church.

To assert that the 500 year long inquisition was a matter of church discipline not involving morality is illogical and absurd. That's something Hitler might have said.

Catholic doctrine is infallible. Not every organization the Church sets up is infallible. The Inquisition wasn't infallible, the Knights of Columbus aren't infallible, and the bingo callers are not infallible.

You are talkin nonsense. The only organization we are talking about is the RCC.

As I said: To assert that the 500 year long inquisition was a matter of church discipline not involving morality is illogical and absurd. That's something Hitler might have said.

What the hell is the matter with you, Ludlow? Are you so corrupt you don't know righteousness from wickedness? Do you condone the torturing and burning of people at the stake ordered by dozens of Catholic Popes for 500 years? Are you as wicked minded as they were? It appears that is what you have made of yourself. To claim the inquisition was only a matter of discipline with nothing to do with morality shows just how deranged and anti-Christ you have become.

The Inquisition was not infallible, neither it's set-up nor its sentences. And since it hasn't been around for centuries, it's a moot point now.

Catholic spirituality is not about Inquisitions and torture. It's about forgiveness for sin, keeping in mind that repentance is a prerequisite for that, and it's about spiritual growth---growth in the love of God and fellow man.

Low: It is not good for your church to continue quietly sweeping and downplaying the horrors of its past under the rug and pretend it never happened. The Catholic Church needs to admit the evil of their ways and at the very least publicly admit their detestable and niggardly deeds they were responsible for. That heinous behavior went on for centuries and that is simply unexcusable. Possibly millions of innocent people's lives were cut short because of the policies and actions of the Catholic Church. So, that means, more than likely, billions of offspring from those murdered people never made it to this Earth because of those detestable murders that the Catholic Church were responsible for. I would not want to be associated in any way with such an organization as the Catholic Church because of the horrows and the brutality that they committed over many centuries. An unrepentant sin is never forgiven and how could any church that pretends to follow Yahweh hold its head up knowing fully well the atrocities that they were blatantly responsible for in their past?

1. Pope John Paul II officially apologized for the Inquisition. (Of course in doing so he was really apologizing to Catholics only, because only Catholics were ever called before any of the Inquisitions).

2. Protestants persecuted Catholics during this period also. The Protestant English persecuted Irish Catholics for centuries. In one year, 1561, French Protestant Huguenots rounded up about 4000 priests and killed them.

Low: It appears that you are highly exaggerating the amount of Protestant mistreatment of the people of the Catholic Church. History makes it more than clear that the Catholic Church murdered millions upon millions of helpless and innocent people just because they did not join or agree with the beliefs of the Catholic Church. Pretending the cruelty and heathen Catholic Church murderers did not do all those evil deeds is only putting their heads in the sand and denying what really took place. Like I said before the Catholic Church needs to be big enough to own up the the heathen atrocities they committed. They need to ask the survivors of those mistreated people to please forgive them and to do what they can, to somehow make up to some extent, for all the damage they did to those innocent and helpless people. I would never, ever, want to be associated with a organization that called themselves a church that had such a brutal and bloody past history. To do the shameful and evil deeds that the Catholic Church did it seems that they were following the devil and doing the will of the devil. How could an organizations with such a shameful, heathen and brutal past claim to be led by Yahweh?

You are screwed up and corrupt. Previously you argued that it was all a matter of church discipline. Now I take it you are arguing that the church had to torture and burn people to death at the stake for 500 years calling them witches and heretics because "Protestant English persecuted the Catholic Irish." One has nothing to do with the other, Ludlow, and you know it. You are truly corrupt to claim and teach your brethren Catholic Popes are morally and spiritually infallible and speak for God.

Low: Of course no one has to answer any questions on there that they don't want to answer. But, I am sensing that you may be somewhat ashamed to answer that particular question. I know I would feel more than ashamed if I were affiliated with, in bed with, a church that mutilated and murdered millions of innocent and helpless people over a period of centuries. The Bible plainly tells us that we can tell the tree from the fruit it produces and the fruit of the Catholic Church has always been more than bitter and poisonous. The Bible also says the fruit doesn't fall too far from the tree. Some day you may very well be held accountable for supporting and being part of an evil church organization.

The Church did not kill millions---that is bogus history. According to Wikipedia the Inquisition executed only about 6000 people during the entire time it was in existence.

Low: You have to be teasing me with the figure of 6,000 people mutilated and murdered. I read the book about Columbus discovering the Americas and Columbus and his crew often killed everyone on some of the islands. They would feed the native's babies to their dogs and would ride on the backs of the natives to get around on the islands. If the naitives got tired, refused or could not go any further they would kill them with the sword. They would rape the women and very young girls. Columbus was a Catholic and tried to convert the natives to their church if they refused they were boiled in oil, or murdered. You may want to read some of the detestible things the Catholic Church have been involved in throughout the centuries. They were an inhumae and dastardly group of people.

Columbus Day? True Legacy: Cruelty and Slavery

Once again, it's time to celebrate Columbus Day. Yet, the stunning truth is: If Christopher Columbus were alive today, he would be put on trial for crimes against humanity. Columbus' reign of terror, as documented by noted historians, was so bloody, his legacy so unspeakably cruel, that Columbus makes a modern villain like Saddam Hussein look like a pale codfish.

Question: Why do we honor a man who, if he were alive today, would almost certainly be sitting on Death Row awaiting execution?

If you'd like to know the true story about Christopher Columbus, please read on. But I warn you, it's not for the faint of heart.

Here's the basics. On the second Monday in October each year, we celebrate Columbus Day (this year, it's on October 11th). We teach our school kids a cute little song that goes: "In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue." It's an American tradition, as American as pizza pie. Or is it? Surprisingly, the true story of Christopher Columbus has very little in common with the myth we all learned in school.

Columbus Day, as we know it in the United States, was invented by the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic fraternal service organization. Back in the 1930s, they were looking for a Catholic hero as a role-model their kids could look up to. In 1934, as a result of lobbying by the Knights of Columbus, Congress and President Franklin Roosevelt signed Columbus Day into law as a federal holiday to honor this courageous explorer. Or so we thought.

There are several problems with this. First of all, Columbus wasn't the first European to discover America. As we all know, the Viking, Leif Ericson probably founded a Norse village on Newfoundland some 500 years earlier. So, hat's off to Leif. But if you think about it, the whole concept of discovering America is, well, arrogant. After all, the Native Americans discovered North America about 14,000 years before Columbus was even born! Surprisingly, DNA evidence now suggests that courageous Polynesian adventurers sailed dugout canoes across the Pacific and settled in South America long before the Vikings.

Second, Columbus wasn't a hero. When he set foot on that sandy beach in the Bahamas on October 12, 1492, Columbus discovered that the islands were inhabited by friendly, peaceful people called the Lucayans, Taínos and Arawaks. Writing in his diary, Columbus said they were a handsome, smart and kind people. He noted that the gentle Arawaks were remarkable for their hospitality. "They offered to share with anyone and when you ask for something, they never say no," he said. The Arawaks had no weapons; their society had neither criminals, prisons nor prisoners. They were so kind-hearted that Columbus noted in his diary that on the day the Santa Maria was shipwrecked, the Arawaks labored for hours to save his crew and cargo. The native people were so honest that not one thing was missing.

Columbus was so impressed with the hard work of these gentle islanders, that he immediately seized their land for Spain and enslaved them to work in his brutal gold mines. Within only two years, 125,000 (half of the population) of the original natives on the island were dead.

If I were a Native American, I would mark October 12, 1492, as a black day on my calendar.

Shockingly, Columbus supervised the selling of native girls into sexual slavery. Young girls of the ages 9 to 10 were the most desired by his men. In 1500, Columbus casually wrote about it in his log. He said: "A hundred castellanoes are as easily obtained for a woman as for a farm, and it is very general and there are plenty of dealers who go about looking for girls; those from nine to ten are now in demand."

He forced these peaceful natives work in his gold mines until they died of exhaustion. If an "Indian" worker did not deliver his full quota of gold dust by Columbus' deadline, soldiers would cut off the man's hands and tie them around his neck to send a message. Slavery was so intolerable for these sweet, gentle island people that at one point, 100 of them committed mass suicide. Catholic law forbade the enslavement of Christians, but Columbus solved this problem. He simply refused to baptize the native people of Hispaniola.

On his second trip to the New World, Columbus brought cannons and attack dogs. If a native resisted slavery, he would cut off a nose or an ear. If slaves tried to escape, Columbus had them burned alive. Other times, he sent attack dogs to hunt them down, and the dogs would tear off the arms and legs of the screaming natives while they were still alive. If the Spaniards ran short of meat to feed the dogs, Arawak babies were killed for dog food.

Columbus' acts of cruelty were so unspeakable and so legendary - even in his own day - that Governor Francisco De Bobadilla arrested Columbus and his two brothers, slapped them into chains, and shipped them off to Spain to answer for their crimes against the Arawaks. But the King and Queen of Spain, their treasury filling up with gold, pardoned Columbus and let him go free.

One of Columbus' men, Bartolome De Las Casas, was so mortified by Columbus' brutal atrocities against the native peoples, that he quit working for Columbus and became a Catholic priest. He described how the Spaniards under Columbus' command cut off the legs of children who ran from them, to test the sharpness of their blades. According to De Las Casas, the men made bets as to who, with one sweep of his sword, could cut a person in half. He says that Columbus' men poured people full of boiling soap. In a single day, De Las Casas was an eye witness as the Spanish soldiers dismembered, beheaded, or raped 3000 native people. "Such inhumanities and barbarisms were committed in my sight as no age can parallel," De Las Casas wrote. "My eyes have seen these acts so foreign to human nature that now I tremble as I write."

De Las Casas spent the rest of his life trying to protect the helpless native people. But after a while, there were no more natives to protect. Experts generally agree that before 1492, the population on the island of Hispaniola probably numbered above 3 million. Within 20 years of Spanish arrival, it was reduced to only 60,000. Within 50 years, not a single original native inhabitant could be found.

In 1516, Spanish historian Peter Martyr wrote: "... a ship without compass, chart, or guide, but only following the trail of dead Indians who had been thrown from the ships could find its way from the Bahamas to Hispaniola."

Christopher Columbus derived most of his income from slavery, De Las Casas noted. In fact, Columbus was the first slave trader in the Americas. As the native slaves died off, they were replaced with black slaves. Columbus' son became the first African slave trader in 1505.

Are you surprised you never learned about any of this in school? I am too. Why do we have this extraordinary gap in our American ethos? Columbus himself kept detailed diaries, as did some of his men including De Las Casas and Michele de Cuneo. (If you don't believe me, just Google the words Columbus, sex slave, and gold mine.)

Christopher Columbus was not aa representative of the Church. He was sent by the king and queen of Spain, not by the pope.

The Spanish treated the native Americans with far greater respect than the Protestant British did. We can see that by the fact that there is only a small remnant of native Americans in the U.S. and Canada, whereas in Latin America they make up the majority of every country in that region.

Low: From what I have discovering the New World was a joint venture of the ruling class of Spain and the Catholic Church. The King and Queen were helpless without the approval of the Catholic Church.

Low: I guess you have never read about the "Origins of the Doctrines of Discovery" Here it is just in case you would like to read it:

Origins of the Doctrine of Discovery

To understand the connection between Christendom's principle of discovery and the laws of the United States, we need to begin by examining a papal document issued forty years before Columbus' historic voyage In 1452, Pope Nicholas V issued to King Alfonso V of Portugal the bull Romanus Pontifex, declaring war against all non-Christians throughout the world, and specifically sanctioning and promoting the conquest, colonization, and exploitation of non-Christian nations and their territories.

Under various theological and legal doctrines formulated during and after the Crusades, non-Christians were considered enemies of the Catholic faith and, as such, less than human. Accordingly, in the bull of 1452, Pope Nicholas directed King Alfonso to "capture, vanquish, and subdue the saracens, pagans, and other enemies of Christ," to "put them into perpetual slavery," and "to take all their possessions and property." [Davenport: 20-26] Acting on this papal privilege, Portugal continued to traffic in African slaves, and expanded its royal dominions by making "discoveries" along the western coast of Africa, claiming those lands as Portuguese territory.

Thus, when Columbus sailed west across the Sea of Darkness in 1492 - with the express understanding that he was authorized to "take possession" of any lands he "discovered" that were "not under the dominion of any Christian rulers" - he and the Spanish sovereigns of Aragon and Castile were following an already well-established tradition of "discovery" and conquest. [Thacher:96] Indeed, after Columbus returned to Europe, Pope Alexander VI issued a papal document, the bull Inter Cetera of May 3, 1493, "granting" to Spain - at the request of Ferdinand and Isabella - the right to conquer the lands which Columbus had already found, as well as any lands which Spain might "discover" in the future.

In the Inter Cetera document, Pope Alexander stated his desire that the "discovered" people be "subjugated and brought to the faith itself." [Davenport:61] By this means, said the pope, the "Christian Empire" would be propagated. [Thacher:127] When Portugal protested this concession to Spain, Pope Alexander stipulated in a subsequent bull - issued May 4, 1493 - that Spain must not attempt to establish its dominion over lands which had already "come into the possession of any Christian lords." [Davenport:68] Then, to placate the two rival monarchs, the pope drew a line of demarcation between the two poles, giving Spain rights of conquest and dominion over one side of the globe, and Portugal over the other.

During this quincentennial of Columbus' journey to the Americas, it is important to recognize that the grim acts of genocide and conquest committed by Columbus and his men against the peaceful Native people of the Caribbean were sanctioned by the abovementioned documents of the Catholic Church. Indeed, these papal documents were frequently used by Christian European conquerors in the Americas to justify an incredibly brutal system of colonization - which dehumanized the indigenous people by regarding their territories as being "inhabited only by brute animals." [Story:135-6]

The lesson to be learned is that the papal bulls of 1452 and 1493 are but two clear examples of how the "Christian Powers," or "different States of Christendom," viewed indigenous peoples as "the lawful spoil and prey of their civilized conquerors." [Wheaton:270-1] In fact, the Christian "Law of Nations" asserted that Christian nations had a divine right, based on the Bible, to claim absolute title to and ultimate authority over any newly "discovered" Non-Christian inhabitants and their lands. Over the next several centuries, these beliefs gave rise to the Doctrine of Discovery used by Spain, Portugal, England, France, and Holland - all Christian nations.

The Catholic Kings of Europe thumbed their noses at the Pope all the time. The Pope was never the all-powerful ruler of Europe. King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella were very devout, and never challenged the Pope, but they didn't ask the Pope's permission every time they sneazed. It is true that two or three priests accompanied Columbus but they were not specifically commissioned by the Pope.

Christopher Columbus was not a sterling example of Catholicism but Blessed Junipero and St. Peter Claver were. Check them out.

Low: You look over/ignore the fatal flaws and deeds of the Catholic Church. It is more than obvious that your church is your god. They misbehave, kill and plunder and you continue to support them. Your head is buried so deeply in the quagmire of the misdeeds of your church that you even seem to be proud of their misbehavior. You say that you are a native American and the Catholic Church had no tolerance and no sympathy for the natives of the Americas. The followers of your church boasted and gloated of how their aggressive dogs from hell would devour those helpless men, women and children. If their dogs didn't mutilate and kill them then their swords did. You need to think of the misery and torment those natives of the Americas had to endure just because the men of your church had no mercy. Why would you support and honor such a guiltless and dishonorable group of people that mistakenly claimed to be a church? Would Yahweh ever allow such a heathen group of people to make it to His Rest/Paradise/Heaven? If He does then it would not be a place that good and honorable people would not want to go.

There are, and have been throughout history, bad Catholics. And bad Baptists
And bad Eastern Orthodox. And bad people in all religions.

But what about the good Catholics throughout history? The saints, for instance. Read up on them, Tnteacher, and you will see the true face of the Catholic Church.

There have been good and bad people throughout history and that includes the Popes of the Catholic church who were guilty of mass atrocities against humanity and it is pure unadulterated blasphemy to claim and teach that Catholic Popes are moral and spiritual infallible teachers speaking for God, Ludlow, and if you don't care you are clearly corrupt.

KB: It sure looks like the Catholic Church has fallen into the hands of the devil and it appears that the Catholic Church feels right at home in those hands. Looking back into the history of the Catholic Church causes me to think they have not just fallen into the hands of the devil but have always been in the hands of the devil.

Not possible, Steve, because Jesus said He would stay with the Church until the end of time, and the gates of Hell would never prevail against it.

You are lying. Jesus was speaking about the Holy Spirit of God that speaks within that Peter evidenced and Jesus sent into the world at Pentecost the Spirit of Truth, the Spirit of the Son as His replacement teacher. And its obvious you don't listen to this Holy Spirit, Ludlow, for if you did you would not call the Pope your holy Father and you would not believe and teach contrary to the true character of God that Jesus revealed that God orders man to kill people for all sorts of absurd reasons.

The gates of Hell shall not prevail over the Holy Spirit of God no matter what your self-serving, book worshiping, corrupt, RCC teaches.

"How can you tell if a person is filled with the House ly Spirit? By how much they love the Catholic Church."

--St. Augustine

KB, I lived in Jacksonville for awhile, and when I did I attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, downtown Jacksonville. They have (or had when I get as there) a very beautiful Latin Mass every Sunday morning at 8 a.m. You should check it out sometime.

Low: That conversation had nothing to do with the Catholic Church. That is what Yeshua said to Peter. Peter didn't have much of anything to do with gentiles and much less the gentile Catholic Church. I think your Catholic Church makes up things to attempt to make them look like they have authority from Yeshua when in fact they have absolutely no authority from Yeshua. It is obvious to me that the Catholic Church follows the teachings of the lawless and corrupt Paul. Paul's way is not even close to Yahweh's Way.

That sounds like your own private interpretation, Steve. Private interpretation is forbidden by 2 Peter 1:20 and Proverbs 3:5.

Low: When unbelievers, and the Catholic Church may very well be in that category of people, read Yahweh's Word they are often at a loss and are not able understand Yahweh's Word the way His Word should be able to be understood. It is my view that Yahweh hides His truths from people that that are merely lukewarm. Being lukewarm and the Catholic Church seems to go very well together since the Catholic Church appears to be incorrect on the majority of their beliefs. The Bible plainly says we can tell tree by the fruit it bears and the Catholic Church has produced some very lawless and evil fruit in it's past.

Low: The Catholic Church is headed in the wrong direction and have been for a very long time. The Catholics are Paulinians and not followers of Yahweh/Yeshua. Yahweh's Blessings disappear fast when we go in the wrong direction.

Low: It is wonderful that you have been blessed while living on this Earth but I think you will agree that the ultimate blessing is for Yahweh to bless us by allowing us to enter into His Rest/Paradise/Heaven. Blessings while on this Earth are nothing compared to His ultimate Blessing of being allowed to enter into His Rest/Paradise. We want to follow His Will, (Laws/Torah and Commandments), so that He will be pleased with us. If Yahweh is pleased with us then we will be allowed into His Rest. The question we must ask ourselves is: Will Yahweh be pleased with us if we merely follow the lawless Paul or if we follow the Blessed teachings of Moses, the Prophets, Yeshua and the true 12 Apostles? We must make the right decision. Most people that call themselves Christians today are merely Paulinians. The Son of Yahweh was Yeshua and certainly not Paul.

God will not keep my out of Heaven for eating pork. But He will keep out those who reject the pope and the bishops, the successors of the apostles---see Luke 10:16.

Low: You need to start reading the Bible because it appears you are misunderstanding it. You need to read verse one carefully and I think you will be able to determine that Yeshua is talking to the seventy to go two by two to every city to teach His Word. He is not talking to the Lawless Catholic Church.

Luke 10 King James Version (KJV)

10 After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.

2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.

3 Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.

4 Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way.

5 And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house.

6 And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again.

7 And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.

8 And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you:

9 And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.

10 But into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say,

11 Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.

12 But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city.

13 Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.

14 But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you.

15 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be thrust down to hell.

16 He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.

Low: In that same chapter of Luke this is written:

Luke 10 King James Version (KJV)
25 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

26 He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?

27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

28 And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.

Low: Notice that Yeshua said what we must do to inherit Eternal Life is to do what is written in Yahweh's Law/Torah. To love Yahweh with all our heart, soul and strength we must follow Yahweh's Laws/Torah and Commands. I am more than surprised you can't understand this simple truth.

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

Outside the Catholic Church there is no salvation. (God sometimes makes an exception to this if a person is, through no fault of his own, ignorant of the Catholic religion.)

Quote from Ludlow:
I have repented and gone to Confession.

Why are you lying and mocking even your confession? You haven't repented. You still consistently lie and bear false witness and you reject the teachings of Jesus and believe and teach like the murderous Pharisees. You are truly corrupt, Ludlow.

Low: If what you said above is true then we would have an unfair God. When I was growing up sometimes people in the Baptist Church would say the same thing but it didn't take me long to determine that it was a sad, false statement. When you start reading the Bible on your own and mature to some extent in Yahweh's Word then I think you will be able to determine that the statement you made above is more than ridiculous. That statement reminds me of a spoiled and selfish child that has determined that he/she is the only person that deserves a Christmas Gift at Christmas Time. I assume your Catholic Church has told you that only Catholics are worthy/capable of going to Paradise/Heaven. Such unrealistic boasting, superior feelings and grandeur thoughts often comes before the realization that a person or church is not the center of the universe as they had once imagined. Such childish talk causes me to think much less of the Catholic Church and their members than before I heard such ridiculous boasting.
