Now Star, don't think my mothers teachings took very well. Put a dress on me, make me sit up straigt in church, act like a lady, BUT.....then go home and have my Dad whisper "Know what would be funny if someone did?" and him knowing all the time I couldn't wait to put whatever suggestion he had in motion. He taught me well though. Never had to encounter the three F's when dating in high school. Mom taught me how to dress like a lady, but Dad taught me how to fight.

SO, trying to mellow in this old age but IT AIN'T TAKING VERY WELL. Heck, I just want to have fun and not pretend.

Laughing at this one because it reminded me of what the dentist said a few weeks ago. He said "I hurt easily and don't recover very well". My answer was "Well, don't hurt me and I promise not to hurt you". He had a great sense of humor.

I scared a Doctor once when hubby was going to surgery. I told him I dont get mad..I get even. lol
Ended up the day yesterday tired and wounded. First I am cutting little triangles of chrome plastic strip and the tip of the scissors cuts my finger. Then staining in the cottage. Rubbing with a cloth into a 4x4 and ram into a huge sliver pushed up from a nail behind. I cant believe I lucked out on that one..the surgical glove ripped the whole tip out but took it. All I got was a pin point sized red speck on finger. Worse was jerked the can holding the stain and had a second glove dripping with stain. At least only the 2xs over both ends of doors left to stain.
Ordered valances for both set of patio and the window. Want white sheers to blow in the wind on patio doors. So hunt between eBay and Amazon til purple! Find Ikia and read they are not voile..more like wound gauze. Finally found a seller with close up..WT. They look like minnow netting! So much for those. Then size...95...AHAH 108. Went to cottage to measure. Hmmmm..I want them to pool on the floor. Not lay across it to the other side! 95 is enough. So found a set. And then!!! Here is a panel with vines painted on them so it looks like a curtain of vines draping half way down. Back and forth, back and forth. So gave up for the day!

Right about now I might like one of you boys. Joe drove up to the car show. He is an aggressive driver. To say it mildly. I think more of an a**hole driver but dont dare say too much to him. Every time we go to Iola he is in a pissy mood driving up there and back. How dare ANY car get in his path and go slower or block him in. By the time we get to the show I am ready to say F it lets turn around and go home. Traffic is too slow. We are parked to far back in the field. Geez where do you want to be..IN the gate!? Then he sulks for the first hour or two. I view the trip as just an outing with a place to end up. Not an end all be all punch the time clock! And the weather was iffy so THAT is why we got up at 4 am and didnt leave til 7. Watching the TV and trying to figure out when to drive between stuff. If got there early in rain, tarps and no swappers open anyway.
He is damn lucky that I think but dont say. I learned long ago to not piss off pissed off men. But, he is also lucky he cant READ MY MIND!

You may have voted for all those shit heads, OPie, especially the Shit Head in Chief, but I didn't. This is what happens when you allow a paternalistic government to control every aspect of your life because you don't have the guts to make your own decisions any more without being made to feel guilty. Remember this when you go to vote in November.

One of the best trips I ever made was when married to first husband. We took off and followed our highway west. Drove as far as we could by midnight and then turned around. Only had the weekend. Ended up in Mitchel South Dakota. Saw the Corn Palace we never had heard of. Cool but sure not worth a destination. We spent the night in a camp ground, sleeping in our borrowed 56 Rambler with sheets hung over windows. Woke up and found we were parked on a cliff over a lake. Ran across a cave we went through I have never heard of and no idea where or what. Found out how much like mountains it is by the Mississippi.
Stopped in Suix Falls at a cool department store. Same way it had been for 100 years. Found dads gartered socks. And bra I liked. And rode an old elevator up to third. Watched as elderly clerk put my money and written receipt into a holder, attached to a cable and sent it up to the clerks in the balcony to make change. Floors below used vacuum tube.
We had fun. Stopped to rock hunt and just enjoyed the trip.
I traveled after alone and never had a mind for things. Just picked a town to stay in and base from. Travel around and see what I got into.
I have never understood..have to get up at 4 am and hit the road. Cant stop. Have to go go go! Have to get there!!! WHY? Are we WORKING!?

Not a pretty picture!!! Butchered carcass?
I got the curtains and drapes up in the cottage yesterday. It is starting to look like a cottage finally. Waiting for the last sheers for patio door. Cleared off the old console cabinet to move over to make my doll house out of. Then the desk, roll away and rocker. Spotted another rocker in the barn..hmmm...maybe I should have built a 20X20?
Joe was at Menards and we discussed the screen for eaves. He is picking up one.
Eric showed up with his worker and they dragged the bulk of the branches off the mess he made. So just the small bits now for me. The old tree log will have to sit where it is...not a problem. I can walk around THAT!

Wishing our town would pay attention to their lack of promoting public things for the citizens. Everyone around always has some function that is sponsored and/or promoted by the Chamber of Commerce, but we have a 4th of July fireworks show and that's it. The city commission expanded the city park for a plush golf course and unless you're in the country club or such, you're not part of the click. We have such opportunities for entertainment, but seems noone is interested. Even the senior citizens center is lacking and mainly buses citizens to the center for lunch, then pack them up and bus back home. The handful of people who attend are not interested in anything except the free meal.

OK, should have taken this to the grouch thread.

Have a beautiful Saturday.

And then you have Portage. They try to do things. But the in fighting and who will work and who will pay guarantees it will fail. Events muddle and hang on for a few years and then die.
Did shopping yesterday. Took 3 trips back into lumberyard from wood part. Grabbed last moldings I need to finish cottage. Get up front and they have woods and stuff displayed..take paper slip and mark what you want to give checkout. Ok...So pay and head out to truck and around. Drive in and head for the red cedar. Look at my slip..huh? 2x4x16? I dont want 2x I want 1x! So pick out the board that will be the missing on truck, guy takes to cut into 8's. I head in that door to register. Get refund. And pay for correct board..wow! $20 for 2x4 and 9 for 1x! Head back out to wood area. He has cut and in truck and takes slip to get treated boards for barn door fix. Dang..forgot to buy the metal roof edge strip..oh well..get some other time. Ok..loaded..where is my moldings? ARGH! Back in and there they sit on the side by checkout. Well..fine..since in AGAIN..pay for the metal strip. Head out with slip and load that. I got in truck and said to guy..now going to commit myself. He grinned...I will go too. And guess what..I took the $5 rewards card out of purse and didnt get it AGAIN!
Half grown kittens in house...they immediately headed to their toy box and not ONE is left in it..spread all over the kitchen. The one male..4 Spot is getting his new name..Butch!

NO, don't want a kitten. Kittens make cats, and cats make kittens. Take them to the vet for fixing, and then they prowl the woods and make some coyote or fox a good meal.

For sure. Not putting $80 plus into a farm cat with high mortality rates. I eliminate kittens at birth. Hard to do, but necessary. Too many on farm they get diseases and die. Sadly on a farm, cats are expendable. And even if you didnt view it that way...others do so you end up with dumped cats when people decide kitten was cute and adult is not anymore.

I have a new black fuzzy little lady kitten. Just turned 10 weeks. Sucker climbs all over me. I have so many scratches and puncture wounds I have to bathe in Neosporin. She lost her balance the other day when coming down off of my shoulder and grabbed my upper lip. Now I have a big old pimply lookin lump on my upper lip.....

she is a farm kitten. They control the number of kittens they get by neutering everything male, except one chosen breeder. (Including horses, cattle, sheep, rabbits, cats, dogs....) This is the farm/ranch where my 16 year old "best buddy" grand daughter works and is in their equestrian program. They have about a dozen teen age girls working and riding there. Emily works with their "Healing Through Horses" program. So, she got pick of the litter on the last litter and she picked "Shadow" for her gramps. They never have an over-abundance of kittens because their kittens are in demand. All are usually spoken for by the time they are a month old and they go to their new homes between 8 and 9 weeks of age. Shadow was the only black one in it's litter so Emily had dibs on it before her eyes were even open. Sleeps on my chest, usually. Climbs up, lays down, curls in her ball, and starts to purr. Old black, curly-haired, snoring, farting, cover stealing dawg isn't too fond of her yet cuz kitty likes to grab items on dog that hang or flop or wag. But when they are taking naps, dog lets kitty curl up and snuggle into her belly. Yup. My kids. Can't find a gurlfriend so I have my black furry friends to keep me company....

My legs look like chopped liver. I am NOT one of your SIBS! Nor a chew and claw toy!
It would do no good to neuter the males around here. Too many strays that come to visit the barn females. I may luck out now. Tenants new dog likes to eat kittens. So maybe he will take care of the barn cat litters once they wander out of the barn.
Havent left them in for am food yet...just ma came in with me and out already. I have to be in the mood for the buffalo stampede!
Got the roll away bed and desk moved into cottage. Shaping up.
Fuzz got home and said tree down over drive. So went to look. Tree was dead and never knew it. The mass of green leaves were the vines!!! And then looked to big maple in barnyard..fresh break. DANG IT. A section as big around as Mama Cass broke off. Heavy missed the old house trailer and smaller hit. Roof dented in a bit. Good old 50s aluminum is strong. Called tenant..need truck to drag tree out of drive. He came up, cabled it and the vines dragged it back towards the field. He said the maple tore down the old wire to barn but didnt harm the new one. Whew! Rolled it up.
Went out early this am and cut the last vines..here goes my head. WHOOMP! Rest of the tree is down now. Pruned a bunch of the mess and dragged branches off. Fun of a farm...what relaxation.

At work.. I walked into no backup for lunch.
Only a container of cucumbers and one of grapes. Aaaarrrg!

So before lunch I had to cut up all the fruits, onions, tomatoes, and make up chicken salad.
Then I had to do it all over again after lunch.
I guess they didn't want me to be bored ,right!?!?

Sounds like you are feeding my kitten herd. Is that all there IS?
Worked in cottage. Went in closer to find bedding. wellll..since digging. So linen closet got straightened and sorted. Took bedding out and got it on. Tossed tapestries over tables. Put on one mattress zip cover. Oops..twin too big. Hmm. Put on a second. Protect the first from springs. And still big. sigh...OK..might as well put on the third.Lay on kind. Fourth laying there. HA! Small and holding the rest all snug. One way to store them. lol. And then sheets and a twin fancy cover with ruffles and roses that I have stored forever. Arranged the canopy around and it looks great. Then OUT..HOT! I will work today on cutting the steel mesh for the ceiling sides. I think..why cut each. Cut across the longest measurement. Then the individuals and cut off if one is shorter. Duh!

Going to be a great day to be inside, that is unless you have a nice rumbling brook just out your back door. Hot, hotter, and hottest is the prediction for the rest of the week. Not complaining because I'm not having to put on a coat to step outside. I'll take this any day. Just wondering how those in FL are doing right about now. Can't be much hotter or humid than it is here.

Watching the kids shine after all their hard work over at the 4H fair, A good time to talk with people you haven't seen in awhile

County fair over a county got nailed with storms. Ours is next week. Typical July fair weeks.
Guy was supposed to show up today with a boom truck and bobcat and help Steve and Bob cut tree up in barnyard and bring down some pain in the .......trees I am after. So got up at 8 and waited for Bob to call..here. Fine...9:30 almost..walk down and put that letter in the mailbox! And he was alone in barnyard cutting. Talked and they canceled due to heat. DUH!!Great..they FINALLY got a brain! So I can sit in the AC and be comfortable.

our state fair is the end of Aug., but Danny would have to use a wheelchair to go now, so we are okay with staying out of the heat and the crowds.

I see this is the new friendly thread for everyday topics. I've been out of the loop awhile and honestly probably will be for awhile but I'll lurk from time to time.

I only poked around at a few of the discussions ..... seems to be a good thread.

Thanks OP
