I grew up on a ranch in the panhandle of Nebraska. We were self sustaining. The only time I remember the foster mother going to the store was right before the holiday season started. All she bought was 50 lbs of granulated sugar. And lord did she ration that chit. After 10 months of honey and molasses though it was a relished treat.

Being called in from the barn and riding to check on windmills and the cattle to help that old woman can..... we had a wood burning stove and I tell you what, that was one hot son of a gun being in that old house in the summer. And even worse to be around her. Then trudging through the snow, up the hill to the cellar and carry that chit back into the house.

I wasn't raised on a farm so I didn't have as many chores as some of you. Y'all make me tired just thinking about all that hard work. True story. I do remember when I was in kindergarten all the little girls wore dresses then. We had a huge (tall) sliding board on the playground and I waited at the bottom of the stairs to "assist" the little girls up the stairs. (Just trying to sneak a peek). My teacher caught me and put an end to that. Tha b*tch.

Why do I get the feelings no one wants to accept failure's as a parent ? I got my first gun at ten , a red ryder bb gun , a 12 gauge at 13 . At 15 I walked into a hardware store and bought a 22 and a deer rifle at 18 . When your taught common sense and respect there isn't any problems . People need to look in the mirror and see where the real fault is .

Kane, those days were when the neighbor could implement correction if they saw your kid doing something that wasn't right. Then Grandma would swat your hindend if you got out of hand and the parents made sure the kids had responsibilities to keep the household running when it took everyone to make a go of life. That's when we were growing socially and recovering from war as well as the affects of the depression that was left on our parents.

Now, try to raise a child in a society that is all about them, their rights, and as a parent it's your job to see they are kept in social standards that compare to what everyone else has and give them all that's thrown at the world via technology. Just try to raise a kid on the old standards and see how far you get. Heck, today money grows on trees and if not, then grab the credit card.

I agree with looking in the mirror, but it's a world of unstructured people that don't know the meaning of sticking together. Everyone is running in thier own direction.

I remember I used to like snow when I was a kid. Sledding, building snowmen, building forts and snow ball fights, hiding in bushes and pelting passing cars with snowballs. Big fun. But those memories must be stored away under the heading of 'long-term' memory. These days my 'short-term' memory tells me I hate tha chit.

The best part of retirement is waking up at 5:30 teacher time and slowly drinking coffee and reading the paper, or just going back to sleep if it is raining!

The First AFL-NFL World Championship Game in professional American football, known retroactively as Super Bowl I and referred to in some contemporaneous reports, including the game's radio broadcast, as the Super Bowl,[5] was played on January 15, 1967 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, California. The National Football League (NFL) champion Green Bay Packers defeated the American Football League (AFL) champion Kansas City Chiefs by the score of 35–10.

I remember because I was Discharge from USAF January 13,1967 and had a Job waiting me with McDonell/Douglas in Long Beach, Calif..
