Laughing because one day I was at the gas pumps and this old man was on the other side of the pump. This hot car came rumbling through and had to rev it every little bit to keep it idling. The old man looked at me serious as a heart attack and said "Reckon he got some bad gas in that thing or what". I busted out laughing. Old guy never broke a smile so was sure he was funning with me but face didn't show it. Surely he was funning.

The Judds -

Grandpa, tell me 'bout the good old days
Sometimes it feels like this world's gone crazy
And Grandpa, take me back to yesterday
When the line between right and wrong
Didn't seem so hazy

Did lovers really fall in love to stay
And stand beside each other, come what may?
Was a promise really something people kept
Not just something they would say and then forget
Did families really bow their heads to pray
Did daddies really never go away?
Oh, Grandpa, tell me 'bout the good old days

Grandpa, everything is changing fast
We call it progress, but I just don't know
And Grandpa, let's wander back into the past
And paint me the picture of long ago

Did lovers really fall in love to stay
And stand beside each other, come what may?
Was a promise really something people kept
Not just something they would say and then forget
Did families really bow their heads to pray
Did daddies really never go away?
Oh, Grandpa, tell me 'bout the good old days
Oh, Grandpa, tell me 'bout the good old days

Cow water tanks full of green algae and blue gills. And piling into the trunk with neighbor kids when their dad went out to the back of the field to check something. And getting jounced and bounced into each other and laughing like idiots. And NO ONE called the cops about child abuse! Funny..we didnt suffocate either when he shut the trunk lid on us.

I remember my grandmother having one of those. And to edge the walkway we just used the shears. Good thing the yard was small and the walkway short. But the back yard was quite a bit bigger.

We had ABC CBS NBC and an independent. The guy on the tractor was probably going to the implement dealer on Main Street. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. The Avon Lady had a car from the 20s with a running board! 4th of July parade. The butcher would weigh your meat for you, wrap it and write the price on the paper. He balanced the pencil on his ear. (Yes, I was a kid so I was impressed. ) When the population of the town went down they put a hood over the stop light and set up a stop sign.

I can't even start the gas mower. Can't seem to pull the cord out far enough to start it.
Good thing my daughter can do it.

Hated ........ hate a mower that you have to pull the thing to start it and it NOT start after pulling and pulling and pulling .... it would infuriate me!!! I finally reached the point if my husband couldn't get me something that worked they he had to do the freakin' job himself!! This is when we had the farm years ago and .... you would know it had rained when he couldn't do it then be out of town and I try and do it and it be hot, humid etc. and the dang thing not start! Seriously shoot the danggume thang!!

......... did I just rant out loud???

P.S. Later got an electric start mower.

Haying pull starts on my chainsaw and mowers. The last inch of rope seems to be what starts them. And that is when I peter out on my yank. By the time I got the saw started, was too worn out to cut!

Going through my old toys now and selling them.....

mint condition big Tonka and other trucks and stuff.....

some of my toys, I played hard with and basically destroyed.....

and others I was super careful with.....

One Texaco tank truck I have is worth $500 - $700.....

Kids have no clue what they are worth, so I may as well enjoy the proceeds!!!!!

Are you going to sell your trains too?
They closed the company that was here in MI.
Another old favorite closed. I remember going to this one store - In the basement they had a hobby shop, and every Christmas they would set up a huge multiple train set that took up most of the empty space of the store. They were always adding things to it each year. Many a kid wanted to work on the railroad after spending some time walking around that basement.

Oh Yeah Bub. I hear you. Enjoy the proceeds? NOPE, ain't gonna happen. You're going to end like the most of us, spend it on the kids. BUT...if that's what you enjoy doing then go for it. FIRST....take a photo of your things so you can still have it to run into from time to time and enjoy the memories.

I'm certainly 'thinning the herd' with respect to my model train equipment. I did some out-of-control buying and a lot of it was just sitting in storage drawers. Still have way too many locomotives.

Hi Mr hamaker - Someone was just asking about you the other day!
-
I like the theme trains that come in a big box set (everything you need).
I bet just like everything they don't make them like they use to. Some of those sets were heavy!!! (But made well).
